I've Done It Now! - 928 S4
Discussion
This afternoon I went and did a deal to part ex my RX7 for an 87 928 S4 Auto with the Gemballa widebody, I took it out for a spin and loved it, now I just have to wait for it to be reg'd in the UK.
It wasn't as fast as the RX but it was very good fun and made a great noise. It will take a while to get used to LHD (I kept worrying I was going to put my mum in the passenger side into oncoming traffic) but I am sure I will get used to it. The widebody is outrageous and as for the quad exhaust....
This is my first Porsche and I hope it lives up to my expectations, I have done my homework and for the mileage I will do in it I reckon it is the car for me. I am even looking forward to better fuel consumption (I used to average 11mpg in the Mazda and from time to time dropped to 9).
I hope to meet some of you at meetings in the future, in the meantime keep it shiny side up and have fun!

Is it metallic grey by any chance? I've seen a grey one and there can't be many in the UK!

Any chance of some pics?
It's a Baltic blue one with sand leather, I am working on some pics.
I have just changed my insurance over, am with Tesco on the RX7, 6 months to run on policy and they say that assuming I get a Cat 2 immobiliser (insisted on Cat 1 on Mazda, will put one on all the same) I will get a £24 refund! Money back from car insurers!

Looks like Tuesday or Wednesday for the big day!!!
Congrats, I trust you saw the photos of mine

I agree with the comment that the series 1 (the SOHC 2-valve per cylinder model) sounds more "raw". The 4-valve models, however, pull well into the upper rpm ranges.
The 928 is geared very high. On the way into work today, I was running 90-mph at just over 2350 RPM. The suspension is absolutely superb at speed too. It's not a drag racer, but you sure can have a lot of fun with one.
QUESTION: How did they put quad exhaust on one??? Is it coming out the side?? The gas tank on the starboard side (that's the passenger side on a LHD model) presents a problem for "dual exhaust" on a 928, because you don't want hot pipes directly under and almost touching the gas tank cover, which is plastic.
Post us some pics when you can.

Pics courtesy of the dealer I am buying it from, Kristian at www.specialistcars.net who also has a rather nice left hand drive 911 in at the moment.
I doubt if anyone will see a 928 with the typical "dual exhaust" setup, with an outlet on the left and the right, because the right rear side is where the gas tank protection cover protrudes very low to the ground, and there's no real opportunity to get an exhaust system into that area. As a result, all the pipes exit on the left rear, even the racing examples.
