BAD COLD STARTING
Discussion
For flapper when starting, fuel pump only runs when starter motor is being turned. You could try pressurising the fuel system before you operate the starter by pushing the flap back. If fuel pressure is low (fuel pump on the way out?) then this could cause poor starting.
For several years, I've been meaning to install a shrouded switch in the cabin to run the fuel pump before cranking from cold. Apathy wins though.

Mine primes the fuel system for a couple of seconds when turning the ignition on, prior to cranking, and I'm fairly sure that the flapper I had on the car when I bought it did the same. For several years, I've been meaning to install a shrouded switch in the cabin to run the fuel pump before cranking from cold.
