Some lense help required

Hello all.

I have recently purchased the Nikon D600 which I am very pleased with, I am using my older DX lenses which are not really suited to the full frame so I am need to some guidance on what lenses to get.

I would like to get something to replace my Nikon DX Zoom Nikkor 18-70 mm F/3.5-4.5

One thing is that I want to do low light photography such as milky way and northern lights photography, I am wondering whether to keep the above and buy a super wide angle or to try and replace the above with something similar but for the full frame?

Any pointers would be helpful, my budget is not huge but it would be great to get a few suggestions at different price points.

Now you're FX-land the weapon of choice is the Nikon 24-70mm f2.8. It's £1K+ but large chunks of high quality glass are not cheap - and sir did want FX!

It's my 'keep on' lens for landscapes, fab, but as Simpo says, isn't cheap.

Then again, if you have the capital, a lens like that will hold its value very well - so you could own it for several years and 'spend' only £100-200...

The 24-70 is around £1,300 new, although Ffordes have a couple of used ones in stock for around £1,000.

I've recently got a 17-35mm f2.8 AFS, which, so far, seems to be pretty good. I'm mostly using it for video though, but have a stills shoot tomorrow that I'm going to try it out on.

There's also the option of the older 35-70mm f2.8 AFD, but your D600 might not have the built in motor to drive the auto focus. That aside, the lens is supposed to be sharp. I've just seen a used version of it going for under £200, but I'm tempted to get it myself.

For a wide astro lens look at the samyang 14mm. Generally primes are better for this.stuff even with the same Max aperture

Otherwise the 24-70 should be great
