Come the spring I'm going to have to deal with the clutch on my S3, its at the top and the thrust bearing is going, any thoughts on the most economical clutch replacement dealer.
Thanks in advance.

Note that the clutch for that car is an AP unit and a standard Ford 2.9 clutch will fit IF you modify the flywheel.

Ummmmm...... I have heard it is an engine out job.

That is why I was relieved it was only my clutch cylinders that had failed.

Best use a TVR Specilaist IMHO

I presume the Ap refers to the manufacturer, this poses another question, do I go for the original fitment or is it cost effective to doctor the flywheel ?

what is the flywheel mod that you need to do - is it skimming the face back or drilling / tapping new clutch mounting holes? or something else?

Guys,

I may be wrong, but having owned my S for 6 years there has been nothing my local guy cant do !

By all means go to a TVR specialist if it makes you feel better, but at the end of the day it is still a Ford Gearbox mated to a Ford Engine. Simple as that.

If only TVR made things simply for you ....The mod is that you relieve the inside edge of the flywheel to allow the rivets that hold the two mating faces of the clutch plate face together, as these clash after about 6 months of use and you get the clutch slipping at high torque points .....If only it were just a matter of a Ford and a Ford, I have had several in this year to m/c flywheels with cars that have perfectly good clutch plates this year.

Just as a matter of interest my local dealer is saying that the Siera 2.9 clutch goes straight in to the S3 with no problem £150 + 6 hours labour.
What do you do?
If this relieving of the flywheel is necessary, I could find myself in a fight with the dealer.
Any comments would be appreciated.

Great price get him to do the job.....the flywheel can wait until it starts slipping and the job gets done again.... OR ask him to remove the flywheel and check that the new plate will miss the centre of the flywheel ....a matter of 6 bolts and 5 mins extra work so that an assement can be made, the flywheel mod takes about 1 minute to do once a lathe is set up (I don't even charge money for the mod when I am doing the job) ......TWO of the cars that I had to REDO had previously been done by....guess!

Would Adrian mind posting charges here as I think many will find it useful?

Thanks,
