Sorry - what car thread
Discussion
Budget - £6,500
Age and mileage not as important as history and condition
After seeing our much loved 328i Sport off to a new home on Saturday we now have the issue of finding the OH a car.
Fortunately she has certain positive must haves - at least 3 litre and at least 6 cylinders, definitely no disel and must be a drop top
Then what I want (I buy with the heart) and what she wants (definite head purchaser) start to go off in opposite directions
We have a car mad six year old and a sensible family car, I also have a tweaked Alfa GTV V6 so want something to kind of fit in with those
Car will probably do no more than 4k per year so economy not an issue and running costs should be containable if the right car is bought
Wife is thinking E46 330Ci cab - we can all go out in it, still look good, running costs ok, we both know BMW's and there is a good choice of well specced cars
I have a hankering for a Boxster 3.2S - decent ones now within budget although care will be needed, only real downside is obviously that its only a 2 seater but its no deal breaker

CLK - 4 seater, look good and reasonably cheap. The CLK 500 would be my pick of the bunch.
A4 - get the 3.2 V6 in manual form and you have a well screwed together 4 seat convertible that should prove reliable.
Z4 - I have had one in 3.0 SE spec and it was one of the best cars I have owned for running as a 'toy'. You are familiar with BMW so I won't go on about it here.
350Z - nothing going for it over the Z4 IMHO.
S2000 - an engineering tour de force but can be slightly hard work when you are not on 8/10 plus driving mode but fantastic when you are.
SLK 350 - perhaps one of these will slide into budget.
Crossfire - not my cup of tea but basically an SLK (previous gen to the vintage of SLK you will be looking at) with a different frock.
Volvo C70 - hard top, good choice of engines although 5 pot over straight 6 but still good on power in T5 spec.
BMW 330i - still great cars but perhaps finding a lovely example may be difficult.
E46 M3 - had to mention it. £7 may buy you a heap but it may buy you something really rather special if you can find the right one.
Audi S4 - lovely V8 (when it has a decent exhaust) and quattro, 4 seats and a little more 'speacial' but does have its weak points.

Thanks for the suggestions. Z4 definitely out, OH hates them and I am not keen, S2000 too 10/10's to get it to deliver, M3s and S4s are on the radar but potential running costs are a bit concerningA4 - get the 3.2 V6 in manual form and you have a well screwed together 4 seat convertible that should prove reliable.

Still very much the 330 and Boxster S as front runners, looked at two 330s today, both top end price wise and both were very disappointing condition wise, finding a good one may be very difficult
