Hi,

Looking for suggestions for hot hatches or similar.

I am thinking Clio Sport 182 but wondered what other options might be interesting.

I currently do a near 50 mile round trip commute so it can't be horrific on fuel

Budget is around £2500-3000

sorry forgot the budget. Cheap 147 2.0 Tspark with sports suspension and a new set of cams when you change the variator and belts. Enough change for a cheap holiday...I couldn't stomach 50 mile daily commutes in a Clio as the driving position and ride are poor.

I'm not too bothered about the ride, etc as my other car is an Evo VI so I'm not used to comfort lol

Mk1 Leon Cupra. Or an FR diesel one if you are really that bothered about MPG.
Three grand will get you a minter with a decent options list.

You'll need a rear anti-roll bar though - standard chassis is rubbish just like a mk4 Golf.

Cupra R on that budget.

The base pre facelift 180bhp Cupras (which we own one) is well under £2 k.

Our 180 bhp one - well its the wife's car and vast majority of milage is urban followed by a and B road. She seems to be consistently getting 25 mpg once I recall a 28mpg.
Roughly 320miles a tank ish.

So as your driving style is very different you can know your base will not be lower than ours.

I drove a 2.4 Stilo Abarth Schumacher recently and it was great. Much better than the biased UK press give it credit for. Comes as standard with Bilstein dampers & revised brake servo (great for heel and toe). Well balanced, lovely noise and if a 1.8T only hits 25-28 mpg in the real world not bad on fuel either. Also 3 inertia reel rear belts. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2013...

Handles better than a Golf, but a tad nose-heavy with the diesel lump so a rear ARB should sort it...

I've got a Mk 1 Leon FR TDI but wouldn't really describe it as sporty, with the disel engine and consequent lag. It's more of a high-speed cruiser for motorways & dual carriageways. Mine gets 52mpg cruising at around 75mph.

Feels a bit gutless as standard but remaps well - just watch the clutch slip!
