TVR S2 soundtrack
Discussion
Just watched the TVR S2 Episode of Wheeler dealers. I've seen it before but this time it just struck me how awesome it sounds. Given it has a 2.9 Ford V6 I'm interested as to why it sounds so much better than a Sierra XR4x4i with the same engine. Is it just down to the exhaust system?
Yep, Ford collected all the exhausts together and 'balanced' them. TVR kept the two banks of cylinders separate (which creates the off beat sound) and, supposedly, went for a better 'tuned length' for the pipes which would also deepen the sound. That is how I understand it anyway. Of course a silencer which is only marginal on legal requirements helps as well!!!

Funnily enough my S1 sounds pretty different. It's still got that offbeat howl of the car on WD, but it's much less burbly.
And it pops and bangs like a b

Probably because the injectors are constantly pouring petrol into the cylinders, even on the overrun.
S1 has the 2.8 which, IIRC, has siamese manifolds. And it pops and bangs like a b

Siamese ports in the head, yeah. But that doesn't make any really difference to the noise when it's in the original Ford application and they all sound roughly the same. Noticed the exhaust on the WD car looked like an ACT one too unless I'm mistaken.Kitchski said:

My S4c has Cats on it and the sound is pretty good. But I want to get it deeper and louder. Do I need to change the who exhaust system and get stainless jobbies ? If so, any recommendations?
When I had my S3c I had everything from ACT - stainless manifolds, decat and sports exhaust.
When I had my stainless exhaust fitted, it went from a V6 burble to a deep V8 burble and roars, pops, spits and crackles and I love it. The only problem is, I've had a threatening letter from some mystery spineless neighbour, who obviously doesn't appreciate a great sound!
If it was feasible, I would invite all down for bacon sarnies etc... at my place here in Bristol and look out for that spineless person to coming running out, only to be faced with thunder from the Gods & 100+ Smiling Ser's - if only! Lol...

I have been recommended to try these people for an exhaust system. Apparently they create a soundtrack that you can choose what sound you desire, then they make it and fit it. Not sure of any prices but maybe worth a look.
Then everyone round to TVR05 for bacon top up.
