I've recently bought a bike with Fulcrum 3s fitted and I'm very impressed so far, they feel 'zingy', stiff and make a lovely noise due to their bladed spokes.
I've previously ridden Ultegra 6600s which due to bearing failure were replaced by Shimano R500s, TBH there wasn't a noticeable difference between those two despite the price difference yet I'm convinced the Fulcrum 3s are a step up.

I've got a set of Fulcrum 5's and Fulcrum 3's, you can notice a difference betwen the two as the 3's are stiffer. The Fulcrum 3's are now on my winter bike and the ride is smoother than the Fulcrum 5's I previously had on it. I originally had the 3's on my then summer bike but have upgraded that rame and also put a set of Campagnolo Shamal Ultra rims on my new frame. The Campag Shamal Ultra's are in a different league to the Fulcrum 3's, but also in a different price bracket.

+1 - Bought from Planet-X for £320 last year, light, stiff and look quite nice as well. They were a noticeable upgrade from the RS30's they replaced, lost a little on the top end on descents however much quicker and easier to spin up and keep going! yellowjack said:

Just had a set of wheels built up using Hope Pro 3 hubs and Ambrosio Excellight rims. Collected them last Friday and am just about to take them out for their first ride. 
Just back from my first ride and they are great, lively on the climbs and fast at accelerating up to speed, can't wait until next year to get some mileage on them
Only down side is Hope charge you extra if you want skewers...WTF

I'll check him out on my lunch! I must say i had looked at the fulcrum 3 on wiggle as they ha good reviews, but then again.. So did a lot of others! I was thinking about keeping my standard ones jst to use over the winter - is this a good idea or should I just put them atraight on? On that note will the Jan sales bring any slightly pricier wheels into my budget or is the difference minimal at that price range? Cheers!

I also bought mine from Planet X. They were the best price at the time. Pretty shoddy customer service. I can't grumble too much as I am looking at buying my next bike from them. Mavik Aksiums are outstanding value for money. Had some Bontrager wotsits on my first cheapo road bike so when i upgraded to something more substantial (Focus Cayo Ultegra with Aksiums) I was amazed at the difference. Fast forward a few years and another bike upgrade (turned to the dark-side and went all-out Campag, oh yes), several wheel upgrades later (including DuraAce for the Cayo and Fulcrum racing Zero for the Wilier), I still hark back to the Aksiums and think they are cracking value for money.
