I'm sure this will be my first of many Ultima questions as I am planning on placing my order early next year. I am currently working on my budget/build plan and have a few questions to those that have already been through the process.

I am planning on a four year build and have the following in mind:

Yr1. Chassis, alu panels with double skin kit, cooling system, pedals, brake pipes, battery cable and wiring loom.

Yr2. Body, locks, latches and screens

Yr3. AP Brakes, all parts to complete suspension and steering

Yr4. Everything else!

Does this sound like a sensible approach?

Is air conditioning and a second fuel tank necessary?

Also, I was planning on purchasing the wheels as one of my last items. However, are the wheels required in order to properly align the body?

Look forward to your words of wisdom!

Air con is a must IMO and unless you're planning to put a strimmer motor in there, two tanks are standard and required, though a single larger tank would be preferable, it is not an easy task to accomplish as the engine tends to get in the way.

I've recently started my build and sticking to the factory's build order. Just broken down the 'stages' into the order where required. Working well so far. Best of luck.

Hi - Swap years 2 & 3 around. You will want to fit all the brakes and suspension before the body. Also, you will want the A/C kit before the body too.

Talk to the factory and explain your build plans. They will guide you as to what order to buy parts.

Agree with the above.

Steering column and everything that goes under the dash before the body.

Aircon and second tank essential.

If budget is an issue it is probably better to drag the build out a bit longer rather than economise on some "essential" components.

So AC and second fuel tank it is then.

My reasoning for ordering the body before the suspension components is that there will be more to do on the body than the suspension and therefore, will keep the build momentum going whilst I wait for the next cash injection. The other reason was one of paranoia. My concern is with a 4 year build should the worse happen and Ultima cease to exist I will at least have a body and chassis. All other components should be relatively easy to obtain. I appreciate that this is very very unlikely.

Can wheels be left until the end or will they make body alignment easier?

You will need the wheels to align the body.

I strongly suggest that you use the factory 'pre-fit' service to align the body. It is very reasonably priced and they will have wheels.....

They drill fixing rivet holes for you to be able to remove the body and then later fit perfectly aligned - talk to the factory.

I fitted the body myself and in hind sight would most definitely use this service if I did it again.

Good luck!

Is body alignment difficult or just very time consuming?
