I'm getting thoroughly narked off with how crap the Smart-e matrix I currently have is, largely due to how unreliable it is, and has always been.

I'm looking at a CYP job to replace it - this one, in fact: ::linky::

It comes as a kit with the four receiver baluns, works over a single Cat5e cable and supports full HD and 3D.

The nice chaps at CYP are sending me the hex commands for it, so I can check it'll work with my Pronto over RS232 (they think it will, and I think it should).

Have I missed anything here? The cable runs are all fairly short (max is 20m) hence the "Lite" version.

Any thoughts on this appreciated before I take the plunge, as if it doesn't work I'll probably through something through a window.

I like and use the CYP stuff, they are one of the only HDBT manufacturers who will warranty hot-pluging, adding and removing stuff while powered.

It is a good little matrix. How are you going to control your IR Sources?

I have one planned to go in to a project in the next couple of weeks so could let you know how I get on.

The aim is to carry on using the Pronto for all the IR stuff, as I don't really want to be replacing that as well.

At the moment I'm waiting for them to send over what they've got in terms of hex codes to use on the Pronto, but it looks like the CYP itself can be controlled by IR too if need be, so I guess that's the fallback.

Yes it has IR Pass through as well as IR Codes for matrix control.

Good to see someone still running the beloved pronto, but agree, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Let me know if I can be any more help with CYP stuff.

Funny enough we recently upgraded an old analogue (HD) Smart-E matrix with a CYP 8x8 HDBaseT varient. We usually turn to WyreStorm which has been very good for us but in this case we needed the PoH that CYP include in their 5 Play, dropped in very nicely and we've not had any problems. Bit plasticky in build but so far very reliable. We used RS232 via Crestron so if you have an RFX9600 you shouldn't have any problems.

Probably worth you start thinking about a replacement for your Prontos as other than second hand it's repair only. We're stock piling from clients upgrading to support older projects but it's a ticking clock. RTI is a good option but I'd go for Control4.

Have fun.

Thanks chaps. I've ordered it, and am collecting tomorrow afternoon. Probably won't get a chance to do anything with it for a few days, but fingers crossed!

I lied.

Ordered, collected, installed and configured.

Some early observations:

1. It's a near-silent unit. The Smart-e had a constant fan hum, so this is Good News (TM)

2. It runs quite hot. See (1) above I guess!

3. I still can't get one zone to work. The TV looks to be flapping, as if it can't negotiate properly. Given the TV works and I've changed everything except the Cat5e cable, the finger of suspicion points to that. Will make off another one of the cables and try that.

4. Setting the Pronto up for the new matrix was a doddle. The commands are all short ASCII strings, so it took no time. It's also been a good opportunity to sort out a couple of niggles that have been bugging me, and to add an optical -> phono convertor to get the sound from the AppleTV into the multiroom amp, and so to the other TVs.

In short, so far I'm impressed.

Oh, and a thumbup to FutureShop in Borehamwood for being all-round good eggs.

Good news.

I have one to install in a couple of weeks, replacing an old component matrix.

Then in a weeks time I have a daddy to install, Crestron 8x12 Digital Media Matrix and all the programming.

Fun times.
