Current snotter is a 2003 Leon S 1.4. It's perfectly fine skipping around town but less happy at munching motorway miles due to it being cripplingly slow. It's not used every day as I live in London and so use is low. She's got a couple of months T&T left and nothing (seriously) wrong. That I know of.

At Christmas I need to go from London, to Mid Wales to the Highlands and back to London in the space of just over a week. I just don't know if the Leon will make it given her current creaks and complaints.

So:

Option 1) Just take the Leon, buy breakdown cover and hope for the best.

Option 2) Whack the Leon on fleabay and put the proceeds towards something sensibly Swedish.

Option 3) Whack the Leon on fleaby, bank the proceeds to buy something fancy in the new year and hire a sparkly diesel Golf or a 320D (approx £140 not incl fuel)

Sensible answer - the Leon will be fine.

PH answer - buy some ridiculous barge that has even more chance of breaking - check out the bargain basement thread

It'll finally get a good run and chance to breathe then.

Agreed, although renting isn't a bad idea. Shiny toys to play with etc.

Agree totally.

Sell the Leon and buy an old BMW e38 750i V12 to smoke around in for the festive period.

Ask your nearest and dearest for Shell vouchers this year to support you ticking the item 17 on the bucket list marked "Own a V12 engined car".

If you really think your car won't make it then rent something.

"Cripplingly slow" is a 30bhp Morris Minor that has a top speed of 52mph and hence gets constantly overtaken by HGVs. Is your Leon (75bhp right?) already broken? smile
