Looking for a quick response regarding the 306 Rallye specification. I am looking to buy an identical car (black with same interior and “extras”) to the one shown here, however it was my understanding that the Rallye never came with A/C, front fog lights, electric windows etc?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1999-PEUGEOT-306-RALLYE-...

Can anyone confirm if Peugeot actually made options available on these cars as surely if you wanted specification you would have bought a GTi-6 although it seems strange that I have found two with identical specs? In addition, the interior seems to differ from the standard Rallye and looks more like a XSi interior, was this fitted from the factory?

Ultimately trying to establish if these cars are genuine so any help would be much appreciated.

It is registered as a Rallye if that helps.

A/C was an option
Front Fogs and Electric Windows were not available.

Option/spec/trim guide available to download here: http://www.306gti6.com/downloads/index.php?id=19

Air con was definitely available as an option on the Rallye - a friend of mine has one with it fitted.
It doesn't need a regas though, it will need the rotten pipework replacing! It's in a stupid place and corrodes easily.
Most Rallyes have the stickers on them though although they could have been deleted as an option. I can't help on the highlights or windows though I'm afraid.
Cheers,
Tom

Try posting in GG>French bred sub forum.
IMHO, yes these extras could be spec'd, but why get a lightweight car then add weight?!?

That one listed on eBay above has the wrong seats as well - they should be sports type with the Rallye colours in the cloth, like this:

Wrong headlights, wrong doorcards, wrong seats. It's either a rallye that's been half stripped, maybe to track with buckets etc and put back together with '6 bits or it's a re-shell, or it's just a GTI-6 with a confused owner.

Aircon pipes are ali with steel clamps which form a nice chemical reaction when the rubber bits perish so they rot. Clever.

I bought a 306 Rallye from new and have to say there are many things 'wrong' about that car, as has already been pointed out. That doesn't necessarily mean its a bad car, just not original. Mine had front fog lamps dealer fitted from new if that helps.

Thanks for all of the replies, much appreciated.

Just to reiterate I'm not looking at that exact car in the eBay link but when I found it I couldn't believe it was exactly the same as the one I was offered including the interior which made me wonder if Peugeot had changed it towards the end of production on a small number of cars.

From what you guys have said it sounds like a previous owner has changed things and it's just a pure coincidence that the two cars I found had identical specs.

It still seems strange to me that you buy a Rallye for the purpose of being lighter then load it back up with A/C among other options.

Cheers

Odd, isn't it? A lot of people did exactly that with the Porsche Cayman R, too.

A/C only adds a few Kilos and after sitting through this summer with my A/C knackered I would never have a car without it never mind how "light" its meant to be.
Lose some weight! :-)

As above the interior should be the Rallye spec - they wouldn't change that mid-production, as it's a feature of the car and made specifically for it (in the rest of Europe the Rallye was a trim option, we only got limited runs of the 106 and 306 in Rallye form).

Not to put you off the car, after all it's only the seat fabric, but it's worth noting. smile

Peugeot lob any old stuff they have lying about when making their cars, depending which supplier was on strike etc.

Who knows what they come out of the factory with smile

All this obsession with 'lightness' is such a bloody waste of time on a car which weights the wrong side of 1000kg.
Deleting the 10kg of aircon fittings (equivalent to <1% of total weight) will have no appreciable impact on any aspect of the experience - you would feel more 'benefit' from folding your rear seats...

There's still some diehard GT3 owners on the Porsche forum who insist that you must not have A/C on your 996 GT3. I think it saves 15-20 kgs.
I wonder how they were feeling driving down the ring and around it this summer?
But they would never admit to wanting it!

They probably managed pretty much the same as everyone did in a 356 or 911 from the '50s, '60s, '70s or '80s.

I accept that cars designed specifically to have AC, but which have a failed AC in place, can be stuffy because there's no real free flow of air. But cars designed to have proper fresh air ventilation without AC are hardly a breach of human rights.
