996 C4S bumper respray.

Girlfriend just sent 2 pics of a nice scrape on the rear of my bumper done by a kindly person in supermarket car park. Needless to say didnt leave a note or anything and left.
Now it doesnt look that bad but of course in the great world of Porsche ownership it wont be cheap.
Looking at pics, what do you think will be the cost. Now being in Afghanistan i have had to resort to emailing for some quotes. Porsche approved repairer is getting back to me but they have said Porsche will insist on a complete respray of the bumper. Any ideas??

Strike me down, PCGB, but when mine had something similar I used a local smart repairer. £50. Perfect repair.

There is a time and place for a Porsche approved body shop but a bumper ding on a 10 year old 996 ain't one of them. IMO!

The scratch would appear to be on the bumper not the metal so leave it until you get home.

Yes its on the bumper. Im tempted to leave it as well. She was crying down the phone bless her as it wasnt her fault but she feels responsible. Tossers who did it, but then thats the way people are.

I agree with the Smart route as opposed to bodyshop ... But £50 !!!!! Was he running a charity?
Are you sure you didn't leave at least a 1 off the front of that???

A call out charge for plumber is £50!
Then he turns up, takes a sharp intake of breath, tells you that it'll take 2 hours at £30 per hour, plus the parts (that he's already marked up) and he finally bills £350

Being reasonable about it - the materials to Smart repair the damage shown will cost at least £50. Before that the guy's got to travel to and from the job - and after tax, ins, etc he'd finally like to try to put a bit of cash in his pocket for the couple of hours spent on the job.

I'm in contact with Smart repairers up and down the country and I honestly have to say they wouldn't and couldn't remain in business if they only charged £50 for a job like that.

PS. As mentioned above - there's no need to stress over it, it's plastic and it won't get any worse. Wait till you've got time on your hands to get it sorted.

Very frustrating but all part of daily life. My neighbour's 8 year old son was left in the car while she took the trolley back; he let the handbrake off and had a 3 car accident!

hi petop I know what your going through my missus and daughter went to the city the weekend parked right up on top of the multi story carpark with 5 free spaces either side and still some knobb still parked right up against the side of her, only when I polished it today I noticed a very similar scuff the same place as yours, so I have to know pay some one to rectify someone else's bad driving,

Get a decent local shop to do it.

I'm sure if you ask for help in your home area thread there'll be someone worth trusting at a price that won't break the bank.

She could get on the web for the local "chips away" franchisee, get them to come and look and quote. They usually do it on site, so either at home or place of work. Our local lot have a workshop too, and did a great ( and good value) paint repair on my old Z4.
