I will be doing an HPI check today, the car i am looking to buy will come up with outstanding finance on it.
I want to make sure it's not a Cat C / Cat D car or any other nasty surprise before i pay off the finance for the seller and then pay the balance into his account - so want to do the HPI check first.
However once I have paid off the finance on the car and paid the balance to the seller , I'd like an HPI check to show the car is clear of any finance.
Do I just need to pay for a second HPI ? How long will it take for the HPI check to show as clear after the finance has been paid ?
I plan to use www.hpicheck.com
Thanks,
Nick

Not sure if Hpi is the same but I use the RAC checking system and that allows you to run checks on the same vehicle for up to 30 days after your first check.
Quite useful if you don't have the V5 ref number for instance as without checking that, the £5k insurance is invalid.
Also agree with others. Get the finance company to send a letter confirming the finance is clear. I've had them sent by email.
