Clutchless gear changes
Discussion
The KitCar Workshop are now selling a system that allow completely clutchless up and down gear shifts for BECs. Should do wonders for the 0-100mph time!
It's called 'Trick Shift'. No idea on price yet though.

We have one fitted to our T5 Mission its made by Techtronics and cost £507 inc Vat.
Its being used with our Klictronic Quickshifter. As yet we haven't tested it but I have been hearing very good reports about it.
We had ours supplied by Klictronic so I dont know if Kitcar workshops are any cheaper.
The £507 if only for the TrickShifter and dosen't include the Quickshifter itself, that's another £400 or so.
The Trickshifter has some electronics and a vacuum driven throttle blipper which drives the idle bar, simple but clever.

If you're not bothered about downshifts you can rig a quickshifter up for very little cash.
Just run a spare wire through to the kill switch via a microswitch mounted by the shifter ( a sidestand switch was what I used, you can even use this circuit if you have used the bike loom).
It kills the spark momentarily when you put pressure on the shift lever, enough to drop the torque through the box and allow a very quick change. Plus you keep your foot flat on the throttle so no drop in gas velocity through the carb bodies.
I did it to a VF500 I had when I was a student, great fun until it really pissed down.
You need to be careful with the positioning of the switch though.

really? you can clutchless upshift anyway. the trick bit of the trickshifter is doing clutchless downshift which involves an automated throttle blip.
personally I'm a bit wary of these shifters, as they have no mechanical sympathy, particularly on the dogs, and you do/will occasionally go dog to dog. if you are prepared to accept a level of dog wear (and therefore replacement) then they are a natty bit of kit.

The trickshifter has fairly recently been fitted to the Westfield Megabusa.
As someone has already stated, clutchless upshifts can be done anyway but with a lift of the throttle. With the trickshifter flatshifts can be done (at full throttle) and the shifts are plenty faster, there is practically no gap between gears at all.
The upshifts are just a bonus really, the real reason why we went for the trickshifter was because of the clutchless downshifts. On track I really struggled with heel and toe due to the narrow footwell so was losing time, but with the clutchless downshifts there is no need for that, you just brake and push the lever forward.
It has only been used on the road so far but it will be fantastic on track, I have no doubt about that at all.

Yeah Graz found out there the same company but flatshifter is more local with Graham being from Essex too. I ordered and took delivery of my Expert model a few days back. The gear rod is a diff size thread on mine which Im getting done today. Once I have the correct M6 thread Ill be fitting it. I choose the one that does the blips as I shift down. Got no probs heal & Toe but this just makes it even better still!graz
