Just tried to renew my tax online but then realised my car will be due it's MOT at the end of this month (hit the big 3 years) so need to sort this before I can get the new disc. Do most people take them to an Aston specialist or is it pretty safe taking them to one of these "while you wait" places as I don't really want to lose the car for a whole day again?

I took mine to a main dealer only to get a phone call asking me why my car was outside the local garage, so they subcontracted it to somewhere i could have taken it myself, but it was in for a service and a few other bits anyway so it wasnt an issue in the grand scheme of things.

I was going to get mine done at AM Works, they charge £55-60 I think. I know they just outsource it. Just use a local garage in MK? Cheap and quick.

In that case you can renew the tax disk anyway. It's got a current MOT now, just not one that necessarily aligns with the tax disk period.

No, this will be the cars first MOT (it will be 3 years old at the end of this month just a couple of days before the tax is due).

I just go to the local one, but the dealer did mine again by mistake and it was fine there too.

I once made the mistake of taking a previous car to a local garage - they got all excited. So since then it goes to the place that services it and I let them deal with it. I know they sub it out, but I'm happy because the place that they do sub it to will be experienced with that type of car and wont get all giddy.

No, this will be the cars first MOT (it will be 3 years old at the end of this month just a couple of days before the tax is due).
In this scenario, online submission can be rejected if it is too close to the Mot or Insurance renewal date.

I would suggest a one-off 6 month tax disc to distance yourself in the future.

I used JCT600 with the annual service. IIRC they charged me £30 smile

Good idea Jockman! I'll go with the 6 month disc this time around. Will get the MOT sorted this weekend smile

Or go for 12months and make sure you get it MoT'd early within the preceeding calendar month - as you could have done anyway even if its the first test. This way you know mot and tax due around similar times if your 'friendly local garage' do not send out a reminder letter.(shame on them wink) Or you could subscribe to VOSA's text reminder service.

Had mine done by my sensible railway arch indy last week - he was careful to ask where it could be jacked, and I was careful to tell him!
