Was considering looking at the one in Chichester as it's just next door, looked at the other one just breifly (was next to a car a friend was looking at).

I considered the one in Chichester over two years ago when the owner who had the work done still had it.
The car overall seemed ok but the new interior put me off (not keen on the colour).
I bought an LS powered car in preference but if you want a performance SBC then this should tick all the boxes.
As for being a UN1 box, I'd say not, that looks like a G50 to me.
At that price I'd have bought it two years ago, but the asking price then was north of 45K.

Yes the interior is definately a bit... at that price it's worth looking at... or a 996/997 turbo :-)

If you are serious about an 996/997 turbo then an Ultima is probably not what you are looking for.
I had a 996 turbo and I'm afraid it couldn't punch its way out of a wet paper bag compared.

Agree that a Ultima can be brutal, a 996/997 turbo with an ECU upgrade is also very very brutal :-)

Seriously - If you are looking at Porsche Turbos and Ultimas then the Ultima may not be for you!!! They are completely and utterly different beasts. I'm not talking about the performance, I'm talking usability, refinement, get in and just go ability, security etc, etc.
One is a very, very fast Porsche, the other takes commitment and understanding. The wife will probably HATE the Ultima and never go anywhere in it. The neighbours will complain every time you trundle out and your mates will say 'A kit car!!!!!???'

You WANT a Porsche. You NEED an Ultima. If that is not the case you will want out inside 3-months.

Good luck

Is tracking them not a good idea and reduces value then?
That's relating to your " was also tracked extensively by its second owner" comment.

I'm obviously not the factory but I'd have thought it a negative to any car purchase and definitely grounds for some adjustment to price (which in this case appears to be the case) I'd need to know more about the repair work but I'd say this was still a fair if not bargain price.

I understand track use can be negative to some cars, but don't get it when people see it as an issue with cars that are designed with track use in mind, that's all.
There's not anywhere in the uk other than tracks where you can responsibly use the performance of an Ultima for more than a few seconds. And they're much better on track than road imo, although still fun on road of course wink

So 2 cars the same, one tracked and one not, which one would you buy ? No prizes for the answer.

Surely for an Ultima the appeal is the build? Like a Caterham I personally would never consider a used example. Perhaps other (potential) buyers feel the same?

*I have never built one, but it is certainly on the list once the current project is finished

That's reasonable, but I consider Ultimas like Atoms or Caterhams. Taking them on track shouldn't be a big deal as to the saleability. Unless of course it's a complete shed because of it, but what wears? Bushes and????

I'd rather buy a well specced and kept tracked car, than a garage queen with little use.

Personally, I'd never buy an Ultima purely for road use, you can never appreciate what they can do that way. Each to their own of course.

If that were true there would be no market for these cars.

Not saying it is true for everyone, but certainly is for me. If I'm going to buy a 'kit car' (sorry!), I'm going to buy it as a kit and build it exactly the way I want it, to the spec I want.

Don't apologise for calling it a Kit Car, I'm not as anal as some, some prefer "component car" hehe
I understand you reasons, but presumably later on you may want to sell, vis a vis someone will/may buy.

its been for sale for WELL over 2 years and possibly over 3 , I think any reasonable offers would likely buy it at this stage, unless its the owners toy..

I looked at this one the other week in Essex:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/u...

Very clean car not a single stone chip. I was told by the dealer it was painted when it was built but later found out it had been crashed twice, once recently. Explains why the doors didn't close nearly as well as the factory demo car and the shut lines weren't perfect.

How did you find this out?
