Knackered my lower back and trapped sciatic nerve ( again) hurts like a bugger, worse thing is, it is my left leg. Too painful to extend and press clutch down. Could take Tramadol to ease pain but not sure Tramadol + TVR is prescribed!. Hopefully will ease off in a week or so and not require another operation.. Poop!

Welcome to my world!

Been working from home since 15th May with what started out as a "bad back" ... turned into a "numb leg" and "someone's stabbing a long file into my arse and down my leg" and turned out to be four shot discs in my lumbar.

They've had me on Tramadol, Paracetamol and Gabapentin since - I went in for my back op (to cut out the burst bits of disc) on Saturday the 21st September and woke up on cardiac care hooked up to a whole raft of heart monitors after my heart stopped for 40 minutes only 15 minutes into the op and they had to abort it and resuscitate me.

Even though it was determined to be the anaesthetic that caused that (they found nothing in the three days I was hooked up to heart monitors) they've decided I now need to be fitted with a pacemaker which they're doing next Tuesday and I'm not allowed to drive after that til my follow up appointment which I hope is next Friday.

Rescheduled back op is currently set for 21st November assuming no issues with pacemaker.

...and I'm "only" 43! frown

The Tramadol wasn't an issue for driving - just use sense and don't drive whilst doped up and be prepared not to be able to get out of the car at the far end of your journey. The bigger issue is not having any clutch control if you have a numb leg.

feel your pain mate frown I have the same problems and i'm only 29, started when I was 27. It's horrible.
Physio and acupuncture helped once the initial pain died down enough to move properly
Tramadol helps, but be careful on your doses it can be addictive. Heat and Ice packs alternated helped a lot as well

So in Motoring terms, your diff bushes are shot and the outriggers are poorly. And in Phil's case, his distributor's packed up and he's got a Canems fitted...........;-))

Get well soon, and more importantely, get behind the wheel soonest.

Best wishes,

Trev

Not helped by the fact that the seats are from a Tuscan and are bolted in, so i can't shuffle the seat forward to make it easier. It has Leven pedals which I could adjust... If I could stand ferreting about in the footwell that is

perhaps a job for the kids over the weekend!

Sun came out this morning, opened the garage, Chimaera sat there ( in my imagination) like a dog waiting for a walk, tail wagging getting all excited to see me. I got in couldn't get it in gear without crying or swearing and gave up. I could feel it's dissapointment as i closed the garage, sad headlights, wing mirrors drooping.... Bad owner! Hmm perhaps should lay off the tramadol a bit ! biggrin

Robert, hope it eases up soon, I know how you feel.

I've got £4000.000 worth of titanium screws and plates in my back. Have told my wife not to bin the ashes when I'm cremated...my scrap value must be quite high!

I to feel your pain mate, but a void the any back operation if you possibly can.
I was on a waiting list to repair 3 prolapsed discs but managed to get proper physio in the meantime. 3 months of disciplined exercise, hard work and some education as to how the back works and needs to be looked after, I avoided an operation the specialist told me was inevitable.
That was 12 years ago. I'm still careful, still do my core exercises most days and my back is as good as I ever remember it being.
A friends wife had an op to 'cure' a similar problem on 2 of her discs and still suffers to this day.

This book is brilliant and really helped me.

Thats what a sleeved exhaust does for you!!

Had my bulging discs sorted about 8yrs ago,the pain down my leg was mental for about 3 months prior to op.

Made worse by being the right side and couldnt rest it on long journeys for work without taking foot off gas....not cruise control in car back then.

Hope all goes well mate.

Did you see the pearly gates when you ventured from this place for 40mins!

I had this or something similar 8 years ago. I was driving , and I had sudden lower back pain to the point I lost vison and started vomiting. My left leg was numb to the point I couldn't feel pins being stuck in it. The pain in my lower back was explosive, with no forwarning and no prior symptoms.

No operations, lots of pain killers and a stay in hospital got me to a point I could walk. Physio and pain killers for some months got me back nearly to where i was before the event, however, even after 8 years my left leg is still numb from hip to knee.

Best of luck and I hope you have a full recovery.

Mark.

Same as Swanny. My Physio recommended this book and I do stretches from it daily after a prolapsed disc in 2005!
