From Porsche To Nissan GTR

Well I thought I was convinced that the germans had the upper hand when delivering fast stylish road cars having been lucky enough to own 2 996 tt, 1 997 gt3 1 996 gt3, 2 boxster 986 987, so I know the rand pretty well.
then I took delivery of the Nissan gtr 2011 MY,THIS CAR IS ON ANOTHER LEVEL it looks great drives smooth and flowing sticks to the road like super glue,has a descent boot fully kitted out with all the toys sat nav etc.
This is by far the complete drivers car. I really do recommend all you people like me who enjoy there cars go and try one

Had a GTR for a year...
Fantastic, fast, reliable & eats up tarmac!
However only ever had fun when going fast, found the interior & Atari screen a little.... well.... naff....
I would buy another one if they spent some of the budget on the interior, rather than trying to lap the Nordschleife in under 6 mins!

Love the GTR think the looks are immense and obviously they are quick, but i would be reluctant to replace a Porsche with one, but thats my opinion.
When i had my first 996 Turbo the previous owner bought a GTR as it was more practical and though he said it was obviously slightly quicker, he did mention that it wasn't as engaging and when he opened the garage he never got that wow feeling you get when you own the ultimate.

the gtr is in another league to the 996 tt the gearbox is great the driving position is spot on theres more grip running costs are lower in the gtr servicing tyre petrol about the same,try both to drive you will see what I mean

My best mate has a GTR and I think they are great, this thing pulls like a stud on heat, and the sound is immense. Admittedly his GTR is tricked up to over 700bhp and when we go out for a blat, me in my GT3 RS and him in his GTR he pulls away from me like someone has just cut a cord between us.
BUT.....
On this one occasion I let him drive my car, he spun it pirouetting 3 times and headed backwards over 20 feet. Luckily it was on an airfield so there was no damage done (apart from his pride)
The GTR is still a great car, would I have one, no not before a GT3 as I like my cars more challenging to drive.
In fact the GTR reminded me of my old 996 X50 Turbo the only time I really enjoyed the thing was when the ground was damp, as there was just too much grip.

I've never actually stood next to one to see the size tbh. When does the size feel an issue? On narrow roads or more just parking it? The thing I like about Porsches is the relatively compact dimensions compared to Ferraris/Lambos etc.HonestIago said:

They are awesome cars but they are also all about speed and ability. This means in 10 years time it will just be a ten year old Nissan which won't have aged well and was once the top of the game. Owning a 911, old or new is for me my boyhood dream. The 996T has shown me that power isn't everything, there is so little point at all having the power it is capable of, so no more will make me any faster when i'm enjoying back country roads. Afterall I am no stig and certainly don't drive my 911T at nine tenth's let alone a GTR.

Had a few laps at Croft in both GTR and 991 C4S a few months ago , I can see the attraction but I ended up,in the Porsche dealership afterwards not the Nissan dealer.
Certainly not knocking the Nissan but it wasn't hitting the spot for me , neither did the Porsche dealer but that's a different story.

Both fantastic but whilst a GT3 has unrivalled tactility,amazing brakes, wonderful howl other Porsches, and I quite include the Turbo (Especially the Turbo from a noise point of view) the GTR outguns them by some distance.
The thing about the big Datsun is its nothing like the pre-conceived ideas of it. Its a weapon for sure but its no playsation game. Its got real character, unwordly composure and ability and it makes you LOL over and over again
Yes its a big car compared to a 911 but it doesnt feel it. Its much much more firm than the big "coop" looks suggest its going to be. Brilliantly damped and the transmission is still better than any PDK Porsche have produced (not just my opinion, CAR has compared a brand new Turbo S with one this month and said exactly the same)
And they are properly bullet proof. No IMS or RMS issues, no scored bores nothing breaks on an R35 even running 700ghp.No Gearbox issues, complete internet nonsense, they're very strong even on tuned cars.
And 620hp is yours for a couple of grand, 750bhp for maybe £6000.
I'd have another in a heartbeat.

Sold my GTR a couple of weeks back. Very one dimensional car. Hugely capable and fast, but paradoxically boring to drive except for the odd 5 minutes every drive. It's a sledge hammer, wham bang, thank you ma'am, compared to the scalpel sharpness and involvement of a GT3.
It's a car worth trying for every petrolhead, but it's nowhere near as good a drivers' car at the GTs.
Glad I owned one for the experience, but I'd never go back to one.
