RE: Audi A5 DTM road car
Friday 18th October 2013

DTM racers are among the coolest looking cars to ever take to a track. What, after all, isn't to like about V8 coupes with ludicrous wheelarch extensions, massively aggressive aero and side exhausts with frickin' flames coming out of them?

Audi celebrates DTM title with track-inspired A5 that sadly looks nothing like this

None of which, sadly, feature on the A5 DTM Champion limited edition Audi will build 300 examples of in celebration of Mike Rockenfeller's recent sealing of the DTM championship before the final races have even been run.
Indeed, the car isn't even based on the sole V8 still in the range, the RS5. But you can have it with ... a 2.0 TDI. Which would look just dandy with the fixed rear wing, 20-inch wheels and 'aluminium look' mirror casings.
Available to order from October 21 the package adds 1,900 euros to the price of the A5 of your choosing. But only if you live in Germany, an Audi UK spokesman confirming that the A5 DTM won't be coming to the UK.
Unlike its A4 DTM forebear, four of which are currently in the PH classifieds from a UK allocation of 250 cars. Something of a sleeper, the A4 DTM was based on the 2.0-litre turbo A4 saloon and tickled to 220hp. A 20mm suspension drop, special alloys and a Recaro enhanced interior all featured, the need-to-know bodykit and businesslike stance combining for a respectable looking stealth sports saloon and something of a forgotten hero.

Discussion
I think that a Misano red A5 coupe with the right wheels is one of the finest looking german diesel things on the road today but that looks wrong, that spoiler doesnt suit the lines, the crappy decals do it no favours, the A5 has a shape that doesnt need adornement beyond a decent colour and wheels that arent too small or too fussy.
