Dear Vmaxxers,

Finally, I can post!!! WHAT A DAY!!!!!

Can I say a big big thank you to all of you who came along & made vmax vi one of the best ever.

we had an unbelievably impressive array of machinery and a great bunch of people. This all contributed to a fantastic day.

Thanks to all the regular vmaxxers for their support & to the newer faces, great to meet you, see you at the next one in late feb/early march.

I will post more re the cars, the experience & the top speeds later, I just wanted to put this out.

Special thanks to Greg, Emma & my brother James for all their efforts on the day.

thanks again,

Thankyou Craig,a truly fantastic day.
Also a special thankyou to the wonderful Corrine and Ben for finding and collecting me a new tyre, definately a case for the true spirit of pistonheads.
The only downside of the day was the condition of the track,is it not possible to pay a bit extra and get it swept before the day,i think their were three punctures on the day.
Also thanks to Craig and Emma for your hospitallity in the morning.
Oh and Shady for showing me how well a DB9 goes round corners

What can I say, a fantastic day, the best vmax yet in my mind. All made possible because of the hard work of craig, greg and their team.

Extra special thanks go to Grimbo, who let me drive his Tuscan, after only having met him for minutes! You're a true legend sir!

I'd like to thank quite a few here, feels a bit like accepting an Oscar etc , so here goes:

Craig - for the brilliant organisation and an overall top job
Greg, Emms and Julie - for the excellent hospitality, bacon rolls and coffee
Daz - for the introductions and usual superb advice
Simon? - for my first ride in a Lambo , just remember Simon.... DON'T LIFT !!
Deristrictor - for putting the face to the legend and showing me what it's all about
MOD500 - What grip , excellent car control Martin
RODS - Bloody hell mate , WHAT GRIP , WHAT GRIP !!
Rviant - Rich , thanks for a superb run in the Fezza, brilliantly driven
trackdemon - for being a great passenger and top photographer (where's the pics Steve ?)

and finally DUSTYC for helping me negotiate my way out of that hell hole called Leicester.
Next time I'm gonna settle for 97 octaine

Sorry if I missed anyone, but as you can probably guess I rather enjoyed myself.

It was worth a new set of front tyres , a new set of break pads and a new set off pants (RODS)

Bring on VMAX VII

I got a screw in the rear of the Noble as well, and I am sure it wasn't there before as I checked the car over before setting out.

Also, not sure if anyone caught the "rooster tails" that the Nobles and 360's were creating, but boy was there a load of crud on the runway.

I'd certainly happily lob in another £20x30 to get a roadsweeper out for an hour or so before - something to think of.

However, I was fortunate in that the tyres were on the "micrometer before the wear indicator" so I'm not worried about the cost of the new tyres, and I hope everyone that wanted a ride got it in the morning, at one point I seemed to be just going "around and around and around and around and around and around...."

Anyone that missed out just ensure you come up at the next one and say "hi J, I'm an orphan from last time, can I get in?"

Superbe day Craig - top marks as always old chap!

Well thank YOU craig. Thanks for organising another fun day.

A great day and a super bunch of people. Nice to meet you all.

Highlights were a 187 mph run in the SL (2nd fastest of the day?) and big respect to GuyR in his mental Ruf...

Nearly had him though

Also nice to put faces to names and see that old wordsmith DeR is actually quite a normal looking chap!

....and lighting a fag off my brake disks after a final run with Dazren. "Them old disks are big, but not as big as Daz and me, ha ha!"

Yep, a great day and loads of fun. Headwinds seem to make the speeds lower than previous VMaxs, but still a real laugh.

Hope this works, here a GPS data-log from one of my runs.....still accelerating hard at 187mph on this run

Guy

PS PhatGixer - the SL65 is an absolute weapon, I love it and to have the convertible option ......I guess it was 'Ruf conversion' vs 'roof conversion'..... but Ruf still won.........

Thanks Craig - a well organised bit of rampant horsepower hedonism!

Was most impressed by the diehards who just wouldn't stop, including Phatgixer, MOD500, Shadytree and Mr Lambodriver! Chapeau to the lot of you! I hope you bought shares in Shell before the day.

Apart from the Vmax runs, the wide twisties getting back to the start point finally allowed me to the really seek the limits of my car, shag my tyres and make acquaintances with the killjoy Porsche ABD - is there any way of turning the damned thing off?

Did anyone else get the impression that your top speed was better if you were in the left hand lane - after repeated 165s on the right, the left hand side immediately yielded 171 mph (though the speedo insisted that I was doing well over 180).

Hope that no one broke anything too precious, or if you did you're still smiling about it. Now, what can I do to the car to make it go a bit faster next time.....

Guy, masterly run on that chart, the phenomenal acceleration is one thing, then look at the decel slope on braking ... blimey. Could you by any chance post 0 - 60 and 0 - 100 times from that emergency start you did on the way back from the VMax run? Cheers to YGS and all present on the day.

Sounds like you had the best day of all then! I didnt think there was much room to screw in the back of a Noble

I didn't do any really full-on road-test style hard acceleration runs, but on that run it happens to be 0-60mph in 4.3s and 0-100mph in 8.4s. On that run also the 100mph-150mph was 9.7s and braking 180-80mph was 5.1s.

Just some figures to float about from that run, certainly not the best the car will do.

Thanks Craig and everyone else involved in organising it all - absolutely top day and great to meet some more people!
Taking the SL55 round after delimiting it made it all worthwhile - first VMAX and first time on a track for both Iain (175mph) and I (162mph) so pleased with how we got on.
Cheers also to - Phatgixer, SpiderSimon, GuyR, Joust, DustyC, Shadytree, Blow Dog. Great rides guys (sorry if I forgot to mention anyone)
Katrina
PS "Thelma and Louise" had a great time round the track!

A massive thanks to craig, another fantastic day..
Joust, thanks for introducing me to Nobles, a really rather incredible car!
DeR, cracking run, thankyou, I'd remember more of it if it wasn't for that damn Murci!
Gixer, that car is just wrong!
Gixers Mate (CSL)... just WOW, thankyou!
Mod500, last run of the day for me, and what a ride, such car control, a real joy to ride with you
Anniesdad, lovely to meet you and cheers for bringing Lawrence and introducing me, how strange that he should know a mate from my office! (and have driven him to his wedding in the very same 575!!!)
BCA, great to meet you at last fella, and what a fun "run" at the end... Did anyone get any photo's of the two behemouth's of Vmax lining up together??

Cheers for a fantastic day...

BTW, if everyone would like to drop me a line with their top speeds, I'll throw together a league table..

Agreed. Thanks to all, especially Gazboy who was a most charming host for the day.

VMax is one place where you just can't walk 5 paces without falling in to an intelligent conversation. Long may it thrive.

Rods - you're welcome, though all I did was point you in the direction of a top bloke [shameless] (Mark at Tyres Northampton 01604 588599) [/shameless]. Ben (BCA) was a star, wasn't he? What a hoot that almost the only car there that could accommodate your monster wheel was a Smart! Actually, Ben shares a Cerbera with his dad, and I have a Griff, so we were both happy to help on the basis of karma - clocking up favours for when the inevitable happens (again!!) Incidentally, I've still got your receipt - mail me an address and I'll send it to you.

It's probably all been said before but a massive thank you to Craig, Greg and all (sorry didn't thank you on the day).

With regards to rides, a BIG thank you to:

Phatgixer - SL65 AMG - I still can't quite believe what this car achieved, not from a rolling start, but kind of a low speed/sideways start at the bottom of the runway. What an absolute monster! - 186mph and thats with 3 occupants (you, me and the spider you tried getting out of your face at about 160mph!)

Michael(?) (Phatgixer's Colleague) - M3 CSL - God I've gotta get one of these. Just absolutely fabulous through the twisties. Great car control and absolutely balls out driving everywhere. - 2 runs, quickest - 161mph

Henry - Porsche GT2 - thanks for stopping, thinking I was waving at you, when I wasn't and allowing me a passenger ride or two. A quite phenomenal machine, reminded me of the CSL but quicker. - 178mph(?)

Lawrence - Ferrari 575 - I will get one of these one day. Absolutely cained it to the extent the clutch is knackered, tyres are all spent and a puncture to boot, putting a close to proceedings. We got some funny glances at the services on the way home, Lawrence using a footpump to pump the tyre up, whilst eating cake, took bloody ages to get home as well as he's too tight to pay £3 to go M6 toll - 180mph

Rods - 911 Turbo - Thanks for the run late in the day, not the fastest you were getting on the day but 174mph all the same. Awesome car and thanks once again. Cheers Burriana for asking Rods to take me out and sorry you couldn't get a ride in the 575.

Oh and Slinky...nice meeting you and chatting to you about cars etc. Top bloke.

See you all next year in the F40.

Great day.

Was excellent to meet up with old faces, and meet new people too.

Thank you to Craig of the W, Gregskie, and Emma et al for a superb, safe event.

Thank you for passenger rides to:

1) Daz - for showing me just how brutally the X50 pulls, and how capable the car is, as well as yourself.

2) Shadytree - wow, the Aston really shocked me how fast it goes round corners, and goes like a train above 100. You had the eye of the tiger during the lap I came in with you!

3) Henry GT2 - cannot say much apart from my underwear was sodden after the lap. Respect.

Hope people enjoyed laps in the banana. I really enjoyed the tussles with other cars during the day immensely, especially DeR, and Rods....IIRC my passengers on those runs went strangely silent during the course of the lap.....great fun.

SL65 - Gixer deserves a medal for getting it.

Simon Spider & Lambo - Awesome

Cannot wait for the next one. I get a racing pulse whenever I think about Sunday.

Best Regards

Martyn.

P.S: Did a GT2 spin in the afternoon going onto the straight? I saw one parked down there on the grass for a while.....possibly the occupants were giving praise for been alive and mopping the seat cushion at the same time

ha yes, GuyR left with Henry saying "right, we're going to see how fast we can make it round the bottom bend!"

Cue the Ruf wailing like a bloody banshee, Henry wailing louder and some rather poetic pirouetting along the grass.
