...with three redeeming qualities.

1, They must have Forza 4 experience

2, They must have Gran Tourismo 4 experience

3, They must have real life Nurburgring experience, and be able to offer an opinion on which version of the 'ring is more realistic.

All this without being biased by console-loyalty or blinded by the fact I am trying to win an argument with an eleven year old...

Why not take him there and have some fun by taking him around the track for a few laps, and let him decide for himself? Everyone wins!

I'd never played GT5 until I went to the 'ring and our Bed n Breakfast had a PS3 console setup with it on.

To be fair, there isn't much difference. None of them can come close to the real thing - but doing countless laps of the track on the Xbox I'd say did give me more confidence.

One thing the Xbox can't show you is just how hilly the course is IRL!

I'd imagine track wise they're both pretty similar.

For something as high profile as the 'Ring I fully expect the track was measured down to the Nth degree to make sure that it was as close to the real thing as possible.

The only thing that will change is how realistic the game is when it comes to putting cars around the track.

It really is a case of all a videogame will show is which corners are left, which are right, and what some of the more recognisable ones looked like at the time the game was made.

Do thousands of videogame laps and you might even have a clue where you're going.

I have.

Neither are anywhere remotely like the real thing due to compressions/cambers and gradients.

GT5 has the better track realism/detail IMO, but there isn't much in it.

Surprisingly different - Forza's rendition is far more spacious than reality or GT5, with wider tarmac, smoother inclines and more run off. Very first thing you notice in a back-to-back test - this is largely to do with console processing ability not able to handle a 100% accurate 'Ring, and FM4 being a bit dumbed down, and Kazunori Yamauchi actually raced there doing well and used GT5 to practice for the 24 hour race...
