Would you guys recommend fitting something like Ventureshield to the front of a new car, or would I be better getting the inevitable stone chips painted after a couple of years? I am buying an A6 and figured the front bumper and maybe the rear arches would benefit.

Honestly both are good for differing reasons.
depends on paint colour ,type of car , price of car ,second hand values.

The fact we can offer either service , (paint film company would come to us) there is not one best option.

The film costs are far higher then a repaint cost (normal'ish colours), like for like is front bumper.
But if your car is a 3 stage pearl colour then this is not true.

films dont look as good a paint when both are new , films will need replacing at some point (normally around 5 years) but we just proved can last longer

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

of course without film you will need to replace the paint too.

some people like the fact they have complete original paint as "factory" , some people dont care and want to car to look good without film then when it comes time to sell repaint stone chipped areas for maybe less (depends on colours again and match) than the cost of a film.
some people like the fact on resale the car shows honest stone chips which ties up with the mileage, and not hiding perfect fresh re-sprayed front.

Films dont stop the very high speed chips either but really do reduce normal stone chipping.

But in the end the choice is yours , some films look rubbish (most likely the cheaper end of the market) some films are actually now hard to see (colour dependant again) once applied correctly there is even a self healing film now on the market.

Cheers Kelly, I know there's not one easy answer! The car I'm ordering is a new RS6 in Daytona grey, it's a pearl effect metallic and the front area looks vulnerable to chips. I had the film on a dark blue RS4 a few years ago and it was ok, but I made a mess when cleaning off stubborn insect marks, I was wondering if things have moved on and if so which are the best products. I want to get a proper detail to protect the paint, but Kent is a fair old way mate!

Hey not after you coming to me wink
trying to help out if i can, i do know what you mean about paint films staining from dead bugs and fly's
if i was to say not all films are equal now, some are much better than others , in the same sense some lacquers are much better than others.
You get what you pay for, a small'ish car completely covered in the best paint films can cost around 4k maybe more.
A front of a car can be 1.5 - 2k for film protection , this is for self-healing films form the USA.

I had my Porsche 981s covered in XPEL ultimate film from new by Paintshield.

I'll be having every new car done from hereon in. No one ever notices the film it's fitted that well, I have no stone chips after a year that included 2500 miles around Europe including the Alps, it self heals scratches and swirls and is so much easier to clean than my other cars.

Superb. Can't fault the product nor Paintshield's service.

I'm guessing that wasn't cheap? Would you hazard a guess as to how much it would cost just to cover a front bumper and do you have to do anything special to clean it? Thanks as always for the response.

This Porsche

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.35470452...

had full film installed 4 years ago, has covered 48k miles since installation at a cost of 3.5k
to add the film now used by paintshield is better then the above link film.
theres only one tiny chip on the whole car and thats the door handle so do its job well.

3.7k for full coverage. No idea about just a front application though, just ring them.
