I would like to know if the 1.8 or the 2ltr gearbox has the same mountings as the 1.6 and can they be interchanged?

Thank you in advance.

2.0 won't fit 1.8 will but you need to check the starter location as there are ones that have it on the front & back of the engine so will need to match it to yours

Thanks, my wifes car is not( I believe) got the right gearbox as the rev counter seems lower than what I believe is the norm.

My experience from old Fords is they can inter change parts...just wondered?

Must be the only one ever built with a mechanical rev counter. Amazing!

Assuming you mean the revs are Lower than you expect at a specific speed then it likely is correct as the 1.6 are fairly long geared for fuel economy

Mmmm I can see that.
Her car doesn't seem to have much puff and up hills it seems to run of puff unless you change down, and even them there's a struggle.

The 1.6 and 1.8 both use the IB5 gearbox, whereas the 2.0 uses the MTX75.

I've owned both a 1.6 and a 2.0, and i'd say the gear ratios are roughly the same. They both pull just under 3000rpm at an indicated 70mph.
