ok, so, im a bit stuck in the past with regards to music technology, i am a hardened music fan but still have the problem that i like to physically buy something such as a cd or vinyl, so am late coming to the itunes/spotify scene.

anyway, i have now discovered the wonderful spotify service on my desktop pc and im loving it, so easy to use and literally everything i could wish for with regards to the music available on it.

the problem i have is this, i listen to music every night on earphones when i go to bed, something ive done since being a kid and im now nearly 40 so cant see it ending before i cark it, so ive been looking at the best way to have spotify in my bedroom, is it even possible?? my idea was to look at buying something that streams wirelessly but dont actually know how it works or even if it will work, my idea is that i would like to be able to access my full library stored on my desktop pc in my bedroom.

so my question is this, is it possible, and if so how do i go about it, what equipment do i need??

been looking at streamers from music matters, but completely lost as to what i need.

any help appreciated

If you don't need a music system in the bedroom (?) then just get a mobile device like an iPod Touch and download the Spotify App, you can use it to access your personal music too. If you want some form of straming Hi-Fi then Linn, Sonos, etc. are all ideal as long as they support Spotify. Headphone amp if they don't have a port.

This.

Do you have a smartphone OP? There are Spotify apps for both Android and iOS.

It's worth mentioning you'll need a subscription for use with any device other than a PC? You can only use a free account on the desktop client.

I'd second using an Android or iOS device for this.

I have a samsung galaxy s4 which is android, am I better off just paying for the spotify phone app and listening to my library from that? I assume that whatever is on my spotify desktop syncs with the phone app?

Well decided to go and get some advice and went to my local music matters store, the guy was not particularly helpful in all honesty, didnt seem to want to go into any major detail about how things worked so left me a bit baffled with tech, then his mate chipped in and was of more use. It appears I need a sonos play 5 with bridge which comes free until end of year. Could use a play 3 but no headphone input I believe and thats important to me.

I was slightly concerned at quite how much they were pushing the sonos brand which makes me think they are the best application for what I need or they get a st load more commision for selling them over anything else!!! I was interested in the denon drans piccolo system which has the option of coming with a cd drive and speakers at considerably more money and he just didnt seem interested in talking about it at all???

So my next question is should I go for the sonos or is there anything else I should be considering??

Check out Audioengine if you simply want to have a wireless link from your PC in another room to where you want to listen.

N22 amp and W3 wireless sender / receiver.

You don't pay for the Android app, you do however need a paid subscription to use it. In fact you also need a paid sub to use Spotify on any device other than a PC with adverts.

If you already have a sub you might as well try the Android app and see if it fits the bill, I think if you don't already have a sub then you get a trtial period of the premium version anyway.

jimbobvfr - yes, sorry my explanation wasnt very good, basically at the moment i have the free version of spotify withthe really annoying adverts, and i have the spotify app on my phone which appears to be linked to my desktop spotify, however because its the free version it wont allow me to listen to the music on the phone until i purchase the premium service, which i fully intend to do just as soon as ive decided on the best way forward.

im going to go for the sonos play 5 with bridge which allows me then to listen to spotify without having to leave the pc on all the time.

If you just want to listen to spotify, then I'd argue that a sonos setup is way over what you want, both in capability and cost!! Is that all you want to do with it?

in all honesty that will be most of the use, wouldnt mind exploring internet radio as well, but spotify mainly, prime objective is ease of use and quality of sound, looking to move away from cd's completely in the end.

what else does it do apart from the above?? im aware of its capability to stream multiple units and rooms with the same or different tracks which could be fun.

By contrast I came to Spotify because of Sonos! There was another post here from me about why wouldn't I roll out a Sonos network at home.

The result was that I have two 5.1 surround systems plus a Play 5 all networked on Sonos. Whilst playing I tapped in to the Spotify link (SWMBO's account) and have spent the last 3 weeks re-living my youth by listening to all the old vinyl I still have but can't easily access.

Plus I've been introduced to a whole stack of new music because I now have 3 PC's networked and can listen to my daughters' music too! Thinking about putting a NAS on the network next.
