Just watching a bit of Roma v Napoli waiting for The Walking Dead to come on and after the game they were talking about Hoffenhein v Leverkusen and what happened in that game.

Kießling wins a header from a corner, it brushes the side netting but goes in through a hole in the side of the net and a goal is given!

The referee had a poor game, I don't think that Hoffenheim deserved that penalty, although the referee might have been trying to even it up after that mistake. Always nice to see Hoffenheim lose tho.

I saw that on twitter. I think I saw that they are going to replay the game. Could be wrong though.

At least the ball hit the net - that goal is nothing compared to the Watford vs Reading ghost goal that wasn't even near the goal (and nothing happened about it!)

How is that the ref's fault. Assuming the net got damaged during play and not before k.o, when the ref should have picked it up in his pre match check.

It's a near post header, the ref is in a good position to see play but is not expecting to have to make a decision about how a ball ends up in the back of net!! Near post header, ball in net, why would he not give the goal. Very hard to see what side of the post it's gone. That's why there's a net, so the ref knows if it's in or not.

So the referee shouldn't have to concern himself with how the ball ends up in the net?

The ball has to go between the posts, underneath the bar and cross the line to be a goal.
