Obviously a spin off from the thread 'What was your worst car?' it would also be nice to hear the opposite stories about your best car. It may not have been your most expensive car but just a car that brings back fond memories in that period of your life?
For me, my best car for sheer motoring enjoyment was my 2001 BMW M5 it was a fantastic experience to own and a car I occasionally still miss. smile The car that brings back my best memories was my Rover SDi 3500 'S' in gleaming black with it's V8 soundtrack, I vividly remember going to the hospital to bring home my wife and first baby daughter who is now 23. Some great great memories with that car, some years later I actually came across it in a local scrap yard frown Very sad.
That's mine, so what's your best car and why?

Has to be my old Capri 2.8i from 23 years ago. Had some very spirited drives in it, did my 'oppo' apprenticeship' in it, had our first date in it, used it as the wedding car & took it on honeymoon.... ahh the memories... Oh & in its day, it was a bit of a beistie. driving

First brand new car I ever had

First TVR, couldn't believe I was so lucky!

...and the car I did the most miles in, and never missed a beat, ever

My best car, and the one I miss on a daily basis, was my puma, I bought it unseen on a whim after seeing it attract no bids on eBay, 5 minutes research turned up only good things so I bought it. Had an arkward conversation with the wife though,

Do you like this car?
Yeah it's ok
That's good because I'm picking it up tomorrow
What!

I needed a car at short notice to get to a course and didn't want another diesel or boring hatch, only had a very small budget but that car taught me that every other car I had owned didn't handle! It reintroduced me to the smile pleasures of chasing the redline and cost peanuts to run and insure!

The day I have some spare money I WILL buy another one, possible a racing version this time

Best car in PH terms was clearly my Griffith.

In terms of reliability, practicality and overall painless ownership, definitely my Focus.

This car took years of abuse, I loved every minute of it. Was a sad day when I had to let her go.

Current Discovery 4

Looks the part when clean and off out for dinner - check
Looks the part when dirty and parked in a forest watching rallying - check
Gets across country quickly and comfortably - check
Will swallow whole family, luggage, bikes, etc - check
Genuine all-weather comfort and ability - check
Enough prestige, but without worrying about leaving it parked somewhere - check
Reasonable mileage - check
British heritage - check

I honestly don't know what I would replace it with were the model to suddenly vanish of the face of the earth. Perfect all-rounder.

ETA - For sheer fun-per-pound sideways silliness a 175GBP Skoda 136 Rapide takes some beating, ah, happy days.

I've had lots of cars that I've loved. I've been lucky that I've never really had to buy a car for practicality so have always been able to buy fun cars. But the car that meant, and still means, the most, the one that made me have to pinch myself on delivery day and every day that I walk into my garage is this:

I've had and still have cars that handle better and are easier to drive, but no car has ever put a smile on my face like my Lambo does. It's the realisation of a boyhood dream, I spent my whole childhood loving the Countach, so when I got one it was a truly momentous day for me.

Truthfully my best was one of the Citroen XM's I had. Maybe not a drivers car, but when I had the XM's, the kids were young and we also used to tour Europe quite a lot for holidays. The car was extremely comfortable, I could do a 12 hour stint and get out as fresh as when I got in. The suspension combined with living room arm chairs for seats made it a real magic carpet ride. Coupled with the space in the car, 5 up with full luggage plus beach & surf gear was swallowed with ease. Tip runs, shopping all handled with aplomb, I even had a double bed in there with the rear seats folded down. At the time I paid £3k for my first XM, 4 years old with 100k on the clock. It never put a foot wrong or cost me more than oil and filter changes, a true PH shed smile

On PH terms, then my current 996 Turbo as a drivers car, most of the other stuff I've owned has been through necessity and company hacks.

My best car was the 335d.

My favourite, though was the 9-3 2.8T.. Proper sleeper. Faster than the above too.

Snap! We still have ours (Touring SE) and while I'm constantly checking deals on its eventual replacement, an M135i, I do wonder if it's a good idea. Ours looks SO subtle (17" wheels) and understated which I love, it still feels bloody quick, it's fairly quiet naff refined yet stills hoot on fun roads. Plus it's been super reliable (although it gets very well looked after). There's also a lot to be said for an older car you're not constantly worrying about.

I wanted to change now but think I will hang on and grab a lightly 1er for cash when prices tumble. Which with the deals offered on new ones, they will do!

I liked our mk4 R32 Golf a lot too but for some slightly odd reason, I never felt I could fully exploit the chassis - where as I can drive the wheels off the BM, the Golf didn't quite feel happy when driven hard and also had a gearstick too far back (I'm short but not THAT short!) which hampered the fun. It looked and sounded the part but the BM delivers more in a subtle package. That's my style!

A surprise good car was our Jimny - being softop it was very hairdresser but it was SO capable off road and in snow/ice, never broke down, lost almost no money and was the easiest car (RWD, part time 4WD) to park ever. Again it wasn't worth much so extreme off roading didn't worry us. NOT a good car for distance driving though!

My best car from my youthful days... 316i but definitely looked the part, sounded it too with the complete custom powerflow exhaust (supplied by the previous owner)

And for all-round versatility, my current daily hack. 2000 Accord, never misses a beat. I have used/abused it, it has taken knocks and scrapes, and no matter what I ask of it I know it will deliver. It has carried 2 x King size beds, countless tip runs, and today it had bunk beds + 2 mattresses in it. If I had to recommend any car, this would be it.

Difficult to say really.

I think it has to be my first Chimaera. Though the 5.0 is superior in every way.....

My current Elise. I've never driven another car that I'd want to replace it with as a daily driver.

2005 Impreza STi, without reservation... Subsequently had a Cayman S and E92 M3, neither of which made me laugh like the Scooby... It's just a shame you looked like a tt...
