If you bought a rear light for your car/van off ebay, would you expect it to include the bulb holder and bulbs?

Reason I ask, I bought some MK7 lights off ebay for my van, neither had bulbs or the bulb holder included, which was fine as I was replacing my lights and could use the bulb holders off my van.

I've since sold the mk6 lights but one of the buyers has opened a case against me because it's "incomplete" and said it doesn't include the bulbs.

Not being funny, but I've sold him it for £10 and although I didn't say bulbs weren't included, I also didn't say they were, and also all the lights I've bought in the past have never included bulbs.

So who's right???

You are but for the sake of any Argo, ask them want they want and give it to them up to the value of what they paid.

No point wasting time over it.

Get a schematic and show the bulb has a separate part number...

Bulb, he's being an eBay buffoon.

Bulb holder - are they particularly odd fitments, or are they standard?

They do come from the factory with a bulb holder, and they are troublesome. However I wouldnt "expect" anything to come with anything second hand unless specifically stating it. For example would you assume a car has all the keys unless it states that they are there.

Set yourself up for a fall IMHO - Doesn't say either way, so he's assumed it is a complete unit. Hindsight is a wonderful things, but " bulb holder and bulbs not included" would have nailed that!

Neither.

When I was buying a replacement rear for my B6 A4 Avant you bought the cluster and bulb holder seperate.

Most people only manage to smash the cluster, bulb holder rarely needs to be replaced.

Personally, I would only think it could be described as a light if it has the holder and bulbs too. There is a picture of it fitted which implies its complete. "Light cluster, without bulbs and holder" would have been spot on though.....

I bought a cluster the other day to replace the one I clobbered on a telegraph pole. It didn't say included bulbs or holder, it arrived without. If it was new, I would expect the cluster only. Second hand, I would be asking the question anyway if I needed them - ebay has the option to use to clarify before buying, so why not ask before buying?

Transit bulb holders often corrode so that's not true in this case.

Off eBay if I had wanted the bulb holder I would have found an add that specified it came with one or asked the seller (You, OP) if it came with the holder.

ETA: From the dealer the bulb holder comes as a separate part to the lens for a Transit.

Rear Light normally includes the holder. Describing it as a Rear Lens would indicate it's only the plastic outer unit.

Take the hit just now and in future be as clear as possible when selling online would be my advice, ain't worth the hassle to deal with (I sell a few bits and bobs for cars on eBay so know what it's like)

So what did you sell him then, just the lens?

If I were bidding on that item I would expect the complete light unit needed to replace a broken or damaged one. I would not expect working bulbs though, that is ridiculous; plus they only cost pennies anyway.

From your picture and how it was described I would have assumed it was the complete unit, without the bulbs.

I think you could have described the advert better to be honest. How ever if it was me I would have asked or found one that had a better description

I sell alot of car lights on ebay and realised a long time ago every listing has to be descibed 100% correctly. I always list if bulbs / caps etc are included. Its funny that you can sell a £100 light for £50 and then get a complaint its missing an indicator bulb.
I think in your case just offer a refund for return of the item.
