Just seen on Look North on BBC tonight, police in Keighley training civvies up to use pro laser and to report offenders to them.Apparently you would get 2 warning letters and then...? How long before one of these "vigilantes" gets mugged or run over by someone doing 32mph?What experience do they have to judge someone to be breaking the limit or will it just be ping...ping..ping got one?
The interesting bit will be the bit after "and then..."
If they try to do you for speeding under the current rules then there will be a test case fairly quickly to decide if a Poilce Officer is required to formulate an opinion of speed prior to using the device to confirm.
or has that been done?
Cheers

and of course, selective speed enforcement.
These people won't have cars, as you won't get anyone with a car agreeing to this pantomime. So, the people doing this won't want to travel far, so there's a chance that the people driving past will be people they know. Don't want to do them, so just do people you don't know. The locals therefore can do what they like for more of the time, and people passing through get hammered.
very fair.
Would my own mother do me for speeding?
I think not.

Havent they considered the risk to their personal safety too?
No one is going to take a Policeman or proper Scamera team to task if they get flashed.
But I can imagine a 'nutta' or person of a 'violent disposition' being all to ready to get out of their vehicle and do violence to these people as they forcibly remove their equipment from them. A couple of old giffers at the side of the road wont stand a chance, and dodgy people prepared to take such action will have no problem sorting out a cast iron alibi either. As an alternative, there is also the "I know who you are and where you live" routine, bound to put the frighteners on.
The Police and Scamera staff are paid and trained to handle this, the public, no matter how well meaning, shouldnt be exposed to this risk. Even if it would serve them right!

Licenced Vigilantes!
Whatever next, where the F.....! is this Country going?...
And how much do they get paid for this treachery?
Still, it's not new is it? In America they used to have a CB channel for other drivers to report speeders to the Police. Can't do that here though, it's illegal to use a phone or radio while mobile!
