I had an epiphany in Makro last week and bought some Kahlua.

Been experimenting with recipes and come to the conclusion I prefer milk to cream. 1 part vodka (just some absolut we had in the cupboard), 1.5 parts Kahlua, 4 parts full-fat milk, 4 ice cubes.

How do you like yours? I tried using rum instead of vodka and it was gaaah. Also tried semi-skimmed but it was a bit thin.

A shot of espresso, a measure of vodka, the same of Kahlua, shaken over ice.

Espresso Martinis are the way to Amarillo.

Best I've ever had was at Waldorf hotel; equal parts vodka/kahlua with 2 parts cream floated on top.

I usually shake mine 1 vodka, 1 kahlue, 2 milk over ice (rarely have cream in the fridge).

I love a White Russian, but I've never made my own at home. They are a supremely cool drink, very tasty too.

The ice MUST be crushed, not in cubes.
Makes all the difference smile

If you like these drinks, as well as The Big Lebowski, check out Lebowskis in Edinburgh or Glasgow. They have so many variations on the white russian, it's incredible.

Half vodka? That sounds awfully strong, and a recipe for disaster on a long night out laugh

It's missing the milk or cream element.

For something different, try a Black Russian with a Guinness top.

A White Russian is best enjoyed with full fat or even a gold top milk. There is no point using semi skimmed as the consistency isn't right once the ice and the vodka are mixed in. A slighty sweet gold top like Tesco's Guernsey milk works wonders.

Yeah it sounds quite nice, but definitely not a white Russian!

The last time I was in a lebowski's it had gone way downhill. That was more than a year ago though so it might have changed again.

I started making White Russians with soy milk at home as my missus is lactose intolerant. It works pretty well, they're less filling than dairy ones.

Also no ice. Freezer temp vodka, cold milk and drink them faster smile.
