Need car buying / inspection / accident repair advice
Discussion
Hi all. My name is Pascal.
I am going to be the proud owner of a Z4 very soon and I look forward to joining in on the fun. TBH i cant wait .
I am originally from the UK however I have moved to Poland recently ( polish parents). I am buying my Z4 in germany in the next week or so and I have come here looking for some buying advice but I also have a problem. Annoyingly buying a Z4 in germany is not as easy in the UK. In Germany many cars are accident repaired to a high standard so it is easy to buy something S**t if you do not know what you are looking for and I am not sure If I am looking at the right stuff. I am aware about panel gaps, uneven paint jobs, rounded panel bolts but I would like to learn more about how to identify dodgy welds and learn about other signs that a car has been involved in a crash ( specific stuff for z4 ).
I have gone through most sites that offer decent but limited information and this stuff that I also know from looking at other cars. I have to be honest that I am quite worried and nervous as this is my first BMW. Their are dodgy people in germany who repair BMW cars and then sell them on. Often they are good at what they do and seeking out if something is wrong is difficult. I have heard many horror stories where people have purchased something thats been crashed and I really dont want to find myself in the same position. I would be very greatful if some experienced forum members could provide me with some more in depth tips on how to identify crash repaired cars. I have found this paint thickness meter here. Is it worth buying? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160793222201? ... 1438.l2649
I look forward to hearing from you all.
Many thanks guys.

So from my experience of speaking to detailers, paint thickness has little to do with if it's been in an accident or not, and more to do with how often they polish it! (no pun intended )
However, if you say the cars are repaired to a VERY high standard, then what is the issue? If it's such a good repair, does it matter?
