Decided that i am going to try and go for the R8 option as discussed on another thread. I know i will likely regret selling my Noble, as I will have to pay a fortune to get back into another one at some point. Its the Cat C in the classified if you know of anyone who wants to give it a good home.

Hi Stephen
I've just bought a 2007 R8 to replace my Gemballa Porsche Cayenne Turbo (I also own a Noble).
I LOVE the R8. A truly magnificent machine which is fast, fun to drive and still turns heads.
Ok, yes it's different to a Noble, but it's equally as desirable and engaging to drive.
I loaned the R8 to my best friend last week while I was on holiday and he was a bit unsure if he would gel with the car as he much prefers the noble. But he's smitten with the R8 now.
Just wanted to give you a real feedback report as an owner of both cars.

I bought a 4.2 V8 which is plenty of fun.......ok........yes I would love to own the 5.0 V10..... but the price jump is far too much without having to sacrifice the Noble. Which in my opinion is not worth it.

I do however think that a 2004+ Lamborghini Gallardo is probably a better buy than a newer V10 R8. Now that I've had the V8 R8 for a while, I can see the attraction of the Gallardo with the V10 and I really think that could be next on the cards for me.

Thanks Urban,

I drove an R8 on Thursday night for 10mins and really enjoyed it. The appealing thing for me is that it can be used 12months of the year. I also felt the enjoyment factor was different, but equal to the noble. Ie I loved the noise of the R8 and the instant response where as the Noble has a more throw u back in your seat effect.

Now just to get a cayman S and a noble sold, can't see it being an easy task at this time of year

I think the R8's got real presence too. I've had as many thumbs up and smiley faces from other passing drivers and folk on the street as I've ever had in my Noble. Mind you Edinburgh doesn't seem to have that many R8's or Nobles haha.
I also think residuals look good too. Can't see much depreciation over next year for early R8s.

I agree about the usability aspect. Mine went into the local Audi dealership for some warranty work and it's nice to have a car which can be fixed quickly and not too expensively.
As a direct comparison, I had horrendous experience with Porsche Edinburgh - this ultimately put me off buying a 911 Turbo.

I'm far too young for a Maserati and almost got a slap from the missus for even considering a Bentley Continental.
As good as a Nissan GTR is.........it's a Nissan and I can't help but think they will plummet in value like every other Nissan ever made.

So the R8's a good choice at the £40k plus mark.

Urban - My thoughts also on the GTR and R8 value for money. Nobles and R8s also rare enough here in Northern Ireland so image the same sorta response as you get.

See how things go over the next month or so. If I don't manage to sell, then i will wait until the new year to have another go at it.

Hi Blu3R, I bought the manual version.

I actually wanted the auto as the R8's my daily drive and living in the city can be a bit of a gear change hell. However upon driving the car I fell in love with the manual box and Ferrari-esque gear selector gate.
It makes such a lovely click as you go into each gear.

...and come December 6th this year I'll be joining the 'Noble / R8 owners club'! lick

I'm heading over to Neckarsulm in just over six weeks time to collect my R8 V8 - in Samoa orange. The colour choice alone will doubtless be contentious......

The maiden drive will be up to Hamburg for a weekend at the Christmas markets, followed by a blast down to Amsterdam on the Monday and then an overnight 'cruise' to Newcastle courtesy of DFDS before heading back up to Aberdeen.

Now I will admit that I have had some rather dark and disturbing thoughts of late about possibly letting my M400 go (it's currently at Noble Motorsport having a 24k service, MOT, new floor, Metalman's 'works of art' fitted and either a wheel refurb or possibly a new set of Compomotives fitted) but I'm really not sure that I can. I've had the car for over 7 years now, and without doubt she has been the best car I have ever owned, and therefore think I need to very carefully suss out how happy the R8 will make me, before I make any rash decisions.

Regardless I'll be able to provide some really quite subjective feedback on 3 litre V6 and 439BHP* plays 4.2 litre V8 and 414BHP** in due course!

Hi Shaun,

Must be something about the R8 which meets well with Noble owners.

Samoa Orange is a stunning colour, Ive seen one before and it was gorgeous......very rare too. Mind you I am slightly Bias having an Orange coloured Noble myself too.

I think the R8 would be great car for a long European jolly. Im actually thinking about driving mine down to Marbella over Christmas rather than flying as it could be an epic drive without any snags or issues (bet Ive jinxed that one now!).

You'll find the R8 much more refined and usable day-to-day while still being a blast to drive, it sounds brilliant too even with the standard zorst. However, not sure it has quite the same level of excitement or grin factor that Noble brings every time you get behind the wheel...if you know what I mean.

Certainly if you can afford to keep both, then you will have 2 fantastic cars which is a hard combo to beat in my opinion.

Mind you your M400 will be worth a good few bucks, so you could always punt it and buy a 2.5 GTO or GTO3 with a wad of loose change and have the R8 too.

Nick

Hi Nick – thanks for the response, it makes me feel better about my purchase!

Seriously though I think you’re bang on the money with the observation that the R8 and any Noble ‘meet well’. I did consider a GT3RS a couple of years ago as they were priced well, but I couldn’t quite get my head around the Porsche salesman’s attitude to me a la ‘Oh we only have two coming into the dealership and I’ve sold 8 already’…..which I thought was an amazing feat! Anyways, I walked in and I walked out – and that was (another) customer lost to Porsche.

I have just returned from a European ‘jolly’ of my own can you believe? I took the M400 down to Praiano on the Amalfi Coast in September, she performed beautifully on some absolutely stunning roads and some positively awful ones (thinking the SS1 and A12 from Genoa down to Livorno – roads they actually charge you for using!) but after 3300 miles and as I headed back through France I had to give up. The car was recovered (I thankfully had full repatriation and recovery insurance) and all because of..........a regulator on the alternator! Honestly, something so basic and it could have happened to any car at any time so I bear no ill will, and in fact saved myself about £500.00 in fuel costs courtesy of Direct Line / Green Flag who were fantastic, flying me back to Abz via Frankfurt, after two nights in hotels in Montmorot and then Geneva. My M400 arrived four weeks later!

One thing I do fancy too, although I will ‘suck it and see’ first given the R8 will be a daily driver, is the Stasi exhaust. But as I say, I’ll scope things out before I spend another £2-3k for a few more horses and a more aggressive sound.

Agreed on the Samoa orange too – and given the colour I’ve kept the ‘bits’ on it simple. Silver side blades, silver wheels – the Noble has enough anthracite to keep me happy and the Audi carbon spec stuff is just silly money! I've just seen your M12 on your profile and that really IS an orange to be proud of, and if Audi did it (without going Audi 'Exclusive' I'd have picked it!).

Chat soon anyway. ATB for now.
