Got the old S1 through the MOT today... just a headlight adjustment, some brake-cleaning and well.. that was about it!

I was amazed at mine passing both MOTs I put her through with no problems at all - I always expect to be hit with a huge bill to get that little certificate.

But I suppose we do take care of them better than the average car.

Nice one Neils, you must be pleased I was also amazed at the 80p bulb being the only thing I needed... until garageman took it upon himself to fit another washer jet which I was going to do myself - but even with labour, the final certificate cost well under £100 which is fantastic for cars as 'old' as ours

I always worry that the handbrake won't pass as they are not great on most S's. But mine's past every year so far ......fingers crossed for Feb next year!

Yeah, Mine was under 100 EURO's ! Just some labour.

As for the handbrake. I had the same problem. Weird thing is, I could turn the adjustment bolt any further. So I got a little creative with a litttle clamp and thightened the wires a little. Works for the moment.

cheers

Tie a knot in the inner cable can also do the job!

Obviously not in a place where the outer cable is ever covering that part....

Somewhat O/T but I was wondering whether you've changed your front indicators as they look smaller and somewhat neater than the standard DAF ones?

Great colour BTW.

Hi Richard,

Yes they do look smaller don't they. I think there are other lights that will fit. I have a new pair I bought from S-V-C a few years ago for another car that I was modifying to UK spec and I offered them up to the S a few months back and they should fit fine. These units also have side lights in them, not sure what they'd look like tho?

I agree about the colour, silver suits the car very well especially a bright silver like niels car.
I'm fairly decided on having mine a lighter colour when I have the paint done, I know the dark blue looks smart but it looks dusty/dirty very quickly after washing and marks so easily too.

Thanks

I'm very pleased about the color too. The car used to be metallic red. I think this gives the car a more modern look. When I get the colour code right I want to have the mirror caps done aswell.

The seats are grey (with red piping) and are still original S1.

I made this picture shortly after I bought the car. The previous owner had the familiar front indicator-bashing problem and mounted some other type of indicator with rubber around it.. Didn't look very nice, so got the original DAF at the dutch TVR dealer (it was the last pair!!!!)

Cheers
