Kitchen equipment - Food mixer

Hi,

Was thinking a kitchen mixer for wife's birthday. I know nothing about them so wondering if anyone has any experience or advice.

She is very much style over substance. I'm the opposite but it'll be her thats using it.
I think she'd like the bodum one but whether it's any good is a different matter.

If you can afford it, every woman aspires to a KitchenAid. They come in lots of colours, which is probably why.

Looks nice but balls to that! £500 is pushing it. I think I got her a CD last year!

I'd say £300 would be my absolute limit.

You need to weigh up how much it will be used before buying one.

They take up a lot of kitchen bench space if only used once or twice a year, plus they are bulky, heavy things to store.

That said, nothing else comes close for the annual mixing of Christmas cakes we make for ourselves and family/friends.

We've had a Kenwood Chef for 7 years, it's never missed a beat (pun unintentional)

Again thats an issue. It'll prob be used once a month. we don't have a great deal of space.

In which case, something like a Magimix food processor would have a greater range of uses. These come with paddle and whisk attachments for cake making, although I've heard of the mixer giving up on bread dough.

LOL, maybe that'll be my Christmas present!

She has definitely mentioned mixers in the past rather than food processors. She does cakes and stuff with the kids an is currently downstairs doing a bread or something.

Wife put one on the wedding list. Chuffing expensive but superb bit of kit. Lovely design and really sturdy.

I've started to use it quite a bit. Highly recommended.

Fairly early on in our marriage I bought mine a set of professional knives for Christmas.
Twas a v lucky escape I can tell you!

And I've never made the horrendous mistake of buying her something 'practicle' since!
