Evening all, just a quick question,

Went out this afternoon and brought a car, insured it before I drove it home but it has no tax, so obviously I need to do this tomorrow.

I have the MOT and my green slip/new keepers supplement for the car but i wont have my insurance documents until at least Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning, would the confirmation of me buying the insurance for the car be enough at the post office?

If not I'm buggered for getting to work frown

(for those interested I bought a Mondeo (2008/58 1.8 tdci zetec)

Thanks in advance

Matt

Brought? Where did you bring the car from? confused Or did you mean bought hehegetmecoat

Seriously though, the PO will also need to see a valid insurance certificate for the vehicle in addition to the MOT / green slip to tax the car.

Just ask your insurers 1st thing Monday to email all the documentation to you so that you can print them yourself at home / work. Should be able to tax on Monday then smile

Why do people often seem to say 'brought' when referring to purchasing an item? Presumably it's more difficult to include an extra consonant?

I'm only aksking the question innit? So don't hold it against me.

Haha yes 1 bad spelling mistake!
But I did 'bring' the car all the way back to Nottingham from Coventry!

Thank,
Apparently directline won't email or fax the documents according to a friend who was in a similar situation frown

I'd never come across it in all my life until I joined this forum- where it seems to be commonplace. Not a scoob how anyone can confuse bought and brought.

What have Directline said?

I've never dealt with that company but I've never had a problem getting the insurance certificate emailed through once I've paid up.

Try it, I once taxed a car that had been mot`d the previous day without the certificate, if it`s insured it should show up on the dvla database.

Well im going to call them myself first thing tomorrow and see what they will/can do and if not ill kick and scream or even set up a new policy with an online company, tax the car then cancel it (but a bit of a palarva!)

Kick and scream as much as you want with direct line, they wont email anything.... I had a car off the road for a week until the docs arrived. For what its worth, Hastings insurance email your docs with 30mins of setting up a policy.

Sounds weird in this modern day & age that they dont want to email the documentation banghead I thought it was commonplace for every insurer to encourage this as it saves them on their own printing / postal, etc, costs.

Every insurer I've dealt with on my cars for the last 5 years have done it that way. Even my mums insurer agreed to email the documents directly to me (as my mum doesn't have an email account) so that she could have the documents immediately smile

Aviva email you your policy details immediately.. I don't think I'd ever deal with an insurer that was so inflexible now in this day and age, so maybe time to shop around?

You need to spend more time with the poor people - amongst whom it's commonplace. Along with 'pacific' (specific) and other such delights.

Option 1 - Tax online, print off confirmation page (You get 14 days grace IIRC, very unlikley BiB will do you for not displaying, doubt cps will pursue and court wouldn't bother even if they did!
Option 2 - Logon to insurance co website/call them and ask them to e-mail you the certificate
Option 3 - Wait....

Tax disc will go straight to the previous registered keeper.

I'd seriously cancel the policy if that is the case! That is terrible customer service!

As far as I am aware he cannot tax the car online without the reference number on the reminder. And that in itself would tax the car to the previous keeper, as has been explained in a previous post. If the previous keeper has cancelled his insurance policy (very likely) then the "tax online" thing is not going to work anyway.

Post Office will only accept an original Insurance Certificate, no copies or printouts from Emails.

Print it on a laser printer and it'll get past the person on the desk.

They do now. Even the local VRO has been accepting them for quite a while.
