Rights while surfing the less sulubrious areas of the web for certain cracks...( I wasn't being nayghty i promise) I appear to have got a download which randomly fires a lesbian Porn window up when surfing. I can't see how to remove it any thoughts..

I'm running Service pack 2 upto date Norton and the latest spybot and these all come up clean. I can't see anything odd in th processes nothing is running in tasks and I wouldn't know where to atrt looking in the registry, any thoughts folks.

Go to internet explorer - tools - internet options - temporary internet files - delete cookies and delete files.

This should clear your internet history and the cookie that is instigating the pop up.

Frik and Dobbo have the right idea, you have spyware/malware what ever you want to call it.

Install, run both of those and then goto www.mozilla.org and download firefox - all these troubles don't exist with FF!

If you find out where it fires up from can you post the details as I wouldn't mind having that installed.

If all else fails - restore your registry from a time before the incept point of the pop-ups.

Use an anti-spyware product and after cleaning be sure that you have your firewall on "maximum shields" before revisiting the web equivelant of the land of Suzie Wong...

Apologies on behalf of Fish, if he hasn't replied to the suggestions its because he has been mad at work the past couple of days

I had a similar problem, again from searching for a particular crack (god, what an inappropriate term for this thread!). I had to remove it using a Start-up program monitor type program as spybot et al didn't touch it.

What happened was it changed my home page to a porn page (not lesbian unfortunately as I would have kept it), everytime I reset the homepage and restarted the PC it would go back.

The Start-up monitor showed me everything that was fired when Win2K started and there was a spurious one there - I took a look in the registry and saw that it changed the home page. I then simply removed it from the startup process (using the app) and therefore the registry.

If SpyBot et al doesn't fix it and you can't do what Ernest suggests - let me know and I'll mail you the app (it's free and small) or put it on my webspace for you to download.

Get a copy of a pop-up stopper, i use this free one

www.panicware.com/

goto downloads at top of page, look for free version, download just pop-up stopper as they ask if you want sound pack etc.

It works fairly well once you have Spybot installed and a decent Anti-virus program such as Sophos. Make sure you run antivirus scan every few days and make sure you keep spybot up to date.
