Oh so it's just a software update? I think I need to test drive a facelift car and see how much difference the steering makes then so I can decide what to buy
That would make sense- I went for an early 2006 car to get the larger brakes and lower VED... I'm not sure what changes they made to the later cars other than purely cosmetic ones- the one thing I would like would be paddle shift as opposed to the button son the rear of the steering wheel. http://www.slkworld.com/forumindex.php might be a good place to ask as well (free to join).
Can not comment on the 4pot brakes, as I have no experience.
6pot brakes are very good - yet expensive to replace.
But then VED is so much cheaper (each year)

I drove both the early car with the 6 pot callipers and the late car with 4 pot. To be honest, I could not tell the difference with the cars in braking terms. I went for a 2005 car though as the VED is cheaper, it was a mint car, plus it was in red, which is rare for an AMG.
The downside is the discs for the 6 pot callipers are £1200 from Mercedes, although someone is selling some new on Ebay for £345 at the moment, not the fully floating type though...
