Morning all,

I'm shortly going to be trading in a couple of cars and buying a new one, however recently both the cars I'm going to trade have developed issues. I'm not referring to deep rooted psychological problems brought on by a troubled childhood however in one the exhaust rattles and in the other their appears to be a leak in the coolant system.

Probably a stupid question however is it best to trade as is or to get them fixed and then trade?

Cheers,

M.

I'm in a similar boat, I'm looking to sell my Punto soon which is plagued with niggly problems that have never bothered me enough to fix and I don't think I could bring myself to sell it privately but dealers will only give me £200-£300 despite its low miles.

Would be interesting to see what the general consensus say. Seeing as people give car salesmen so much gip for selling dodgy cars, they forget that the 'dodgy cars' have probably been part-ex'd in by an owner who knew full well what was wrong with them and failed to mention it.

Just trade them in.
It'll cost more to fix than you'll gain in p/ex value.

Just trade them in as they are, how do you think all the crappy cars get to auction? smile

Thanks for the advice guys - to add some context the cars are an E46 M3 and a 645 convertible.

Cheers,

Or get a quote to fix them. If you experience a kick in the nuts for the faults you know how much it should hurt. Some dealers are slack and may not check properly anyway.

i thought they were snotters, chances are these will be test driven as they will potentially retailed, at my place the customer signs to say the car is fault free

Stick them on ebay for 99p 10 days starting on Thursday evening.

You will get more than trade in value. Just be honest in your description.

I'd imagine these will be looked at more thoroughly than a £250 snotter.

It depends on your conscience really, what will you say if they say 'well that one has an exhaust rattle and that one is leakng water' ?

Plead ignorance or say 'oh I knew that but didn't want to tell you' ?
