Modify or leave standard?
Discussion
As our cars get older and more collectable my opinion is original is best in respect of value, I have toyed with the idea of MK3 lights and the later pod style rears plus 5 stud conversion bigger brakes etc etc, but as my car is quite rare as a 93 430BV I think its probably best to leave well alone, thing is they do look nice with all the mods and there are some great upgrades, some of TVRS engineering was annoyingly poor and the Modifications do improve them no end, but perhaps like early Porsches once the values do start rising premiums will be made of original cars what do you think?
One thing's for sure, you're highly unlikely to recoup the costs of the various modifications you could carry out, which on top of potentially lowering the car's value means that from a financial perspective maintaining it as a standard car makes the most sense. Unfortunately I don't have any of that, and therefore shouldn't really be attempting to answer your question

Personally I prefer the 'as it left the factory' look, but do concede that some mechanical modifications are a cast improvement so shouldn't detract from the value.
If it was a common as muck 400 then I'd say do whatever, but as you say, there are not many 430BV's around and IMHO I think it needs to be original in it's looks at least.

I think you should change the engine, modify the lights, change the wheels, change the seats, rip out the dash.
Sell them all to me, then there will be one less original 430 around and I can have some spares for my 430. In 10 years or more and after all the other 80 odd 430`s left have done the same I will finally be able to retire.
Its not going to happen is it.

I have changed the rear lights on my 430 and have done a few engine, exhaust , suspension and ecu mods. Hell I have gone the whole hog apart from body work and interior. I have kept the origional wheels though so I can revert back to a standard look. I think it makes her more usable. She's still a 430 at heart. I will never recoupe the monies I have spent. But I have owned her for 14 years. So I'm in it for the long haul

Only 12 BV ! 430s are common as anything!Sell them all to me, then there will be one less original 430 around and I can have some spares for my 430. In 10 years or more and after all the other 80 odd 430`s left have done the same I will finally be able to retire.

my 430 had already had a colour change when I got it, someone had sleeved the exhaust & done a load of bodges on it, ive slowly changed things around, ie its now got act sports exhaust, clive f y piece, 16" imolas all round ect. its also going to get a set of brembos & 5 litre spec rear brakes over the winter. its just had the mk3 headlights fitted as I like them & the car wasn't original, I can get why some people want to keep them original & if mine had been, I would have left it alone but im happy with it as it is now & it gets a lot of positive comments when at meets or out & about. each to their own I guess. & just to add another spanner in the works, mine was ordered as a 430 but with a 450 engine conversion on the order sheet! I hope your enjoying the car whatever you do as 430's are a great model.
It could be a BV not 100% sure but I think it is. It certainly pulls like a train and doesnt feel like a standard 4.3.I have yet to check, as it involves taking the heads off and checking valve sizes and cam type. I know it was one of the early 430s as it has a build date of 17/03/93. It also has blue dials, Ive not seen another one with these as yet.
So fingers crossed. Either way I love it to bits and think its its apersonal decision as to how people modify or not.
