McLaren confirms P1 performance figures

217mph, 2.8 seconds to 62mph... and 194g/km

We seem to have been waiting an eternity to know just how fast the 916hp McLaren P1 is. Today, with the first customer car being delivered, McLaren has released some official stats.

Yep, it's fast with a very, very large 'F'
Yep, it's fast with a very, very large 'F'
How fast? Absurdly, ludicrously, wonderfully fast. Ignore the 2.8 second sprint to 62mph, how does 6.8 seconds to 124mph grab you? Or a sub-10 second quarter mile (9.8sec) at 152mph?

Perhaps most astounding of all though is the 0-186mph figure; 16.5 seconds is 5.5 seconds quicker than an F1 can manage. Top speed is limited (!) to 217mph.

Then there's braking and efficiency to consider also. McLaren claims the P1 can stop from 62mph in just 30 metres, presumably with the driver grimacing in pain for every single one. The P1's hybrid drivetrain allows for an 11km (6.8-mile) electric-only range, contributing to an NEDC CO2 rating of 194g/km. Combined MPG is 34mpg, only 0.4mpg behind a Porsche Boxster 2.7. Phenomenal.

So now, with the motor show unveil, the first customer delivery and the performance figures released, the only thing left now is to actually drive a P1. As soon as we do, you'll be the first to know.

194g/KM is just taking the mick!

It's a beautiful car, too. (Accepting that such matters are personal judgement).

I wonder if I'll ever see one.

Those figures are outstanding. Would be interested to see how easy the quoted combined MPG would be to achieve.. hehe

BMW S1000-RR

1/4 mile: 9.57 sec @ 156 mph
0–100 km/h: 3.1 sec
0–200 km/h: 6.9 sec
0–300 km/h: 19.1 sec

So, similar to a superbike up to 124, but much faster above and up to 186.

So it's neck and neck with the Veyron at 186. That's pretty astonishing.

Unless that's another reveal, after Ferrari admit their car broke-down every time they tried to drive it 13miles smile

If anyone from McLaren reads this I'm happy to have a go, although it may take me a few attempts! tongue out

I wish they'd post the ring time and get on with it.

62mph to 0 in 30 metres

Does a small arm emerge from the dashboard to gently pop your eyeballs back in

Except anyone will be able to repeat those figures in the P1 but only a skillfull (and brave) rider will get close on the bike. Risk of death aside I know which one I would rather pilot....

As much as I like the P1 I dislike the fact it shares the same base engine with the 5 x cheaper mp4-12c

Also look at the performance figures of a hennessey mp4-12c which is still 1/4 of the price!

0-60 2.8
1/4 mile 10.1 @141

It's nearly the same with (only) 700bhp and to be honest at this level of performance I would want the sound of a V12 myself so it would be stupidly named ferrari for me smile

How much faster can cars get?!

Is 2 seconds to 60 possible? (for a manufacturer built road car)

Hang on, the P1 could still be utter junk (says at least one 'ring expert).

The limiting factor is traction. There is a reason why drag cars tyres are so big/ sticky.
