And im not buying the kit myself lol.

Basically my ABS and SERVICE light come on together usually between 60-70mph. They go off if i turn the car off and on again.

Is there anything the garage could check that is quick and easy to save on me paying diagnostics?

Or is there any way to persuade them to waiver the charge?

Would you do your job for free? then why expect a garage to do it for you, code readers are very cheap to buy, if you have an Android phone you can download the Torque app for a couple of quid and buy a bluetooth code reader for a tenner or less.

Don't be a tightarse.

Because the diagnostics which takes a minute always leads to a problem which 95% of people will pay to have fixed so either way their likely to make profit anyway.

Well if you're complaining that garages always want to try and fix whatever they find wrong with your car, you could stop being such a tight arse and buy a bloody code reader off Ebay and have a go with that yourself.

Can't afford the £30 to diagnose the potential brake problem on your car?
You shouldn't be driving then, its not a human right.

You're paying for their expertise, training and tools/equipment. If you don't want to pay, you won't get the benefit of their expertise, training and tools/equipment.

Or, you could give the garage owner a reacharound. That might work.

Being sensible would of been explaining what car you have and politely asking if anyone's local.
Its now £100 to use mine :-)

£15 bluetooth OBDII reader from amazon / ebay, fre torque app on Android, job jobbed.

Although it may not pick up every code so you may end up 'wasting' that £15.

Sounds like intermittent wheel speed sensor

Most EOBD readers will only read generic "P" power train codes, not manufacturer specific body, ABS etc faults. So unless the OP buys a manufacturer specific reader, he'll be out of luck.

LOL

I don't know why I'm even offering this advice... but see if the abs rings are visible when you're under the car, spin them round looking for cracks, if there is one then 95% sure this will be the issue.

OR - just book it in without worrying about it and let them fix it and pay the bill at the end. Can't see if been any more than £100.

So you should be allowed to use a technician and a few grand's worth or diagnostic gear for the couple of minutes it seemingly takes to diagnose? Perhaps worth bearing in mind, fault codes aren't the be all and end all... yes it may flag up a fault code for say the n/s/r speed sensor but is it the sensor, the pick up ring, the wiring, the control unit... hell, could be due to significantly mismatched tyre depths. So you want the garage to plug in, tell you the code... you go off and do what ever remidial work you think is needed and the light is still on so next day you're back complaining?

Diagnostic gear only tells you the area in which the fault lies, the actually find it requires a degree of knowledge and ultimately, time... and that costs money.

Friend of mine has recently spent somewhere north of twelve grand for the latest generation of diagnostic kit. The training was several hundred more and two days lost work for him.

OP wants the use of this for free. OP needs to find out how life works.

According to your 'can I claim dole money?' thread, you have £6k in savings.....

No such thing as a free lunch I'm afraid.
