Salmon out the freezer - am I going to die?
Discussion
So I just ate a couple of salmon fillets I got out the freezer this morning. They were dated 6th January 2013, smelt a little fishy and were a bit orange on the periphery....but I cooked them well through and they tasted ok (a bit smoked salmony in places!)...
...should I prepare to spend the night with my head in the white bowl?

Unlikely to have spoiled due to bacterial contamination, but the fats (or which salmon has a lot) tend to go slowly rancid. Although the main spoilage process which leads to the development of a fishy odour is caused by bacteria and will stop in frozen fish, there is a secondary pathway which will continue slowly in frozen storage. Sounds like it also has some freezer burn (dehydration).
The fish is unlikely to become inedible, but will eventually taste and smell nasty.
