At a TVRCC meet yesterday, a Cerb' owner proposed that an LS engined Cerbera with an Auto (flappy paddle)
gearbox would be the perfect road car...
Just to be clear; it wasn't my idea. And I'm not naming names!
BUT, why bother with some yank motor? A Mercedes SLS has all the right ingredients

Slightly of topic but, if someone wants to enjoy a Cerbera but needs certain adjustments to enable them to enjoy driving then I think that is a good thing...to any car if it brings happiness to someone's lives'.
i.e. if they become, or are slightly disabled in some way.
I think this maybe the direction the idea came from;I get the impression Cerb's can be hard work in some circumstances...i.e. if they become, or are slightly disabled in some way.
so perhaps, sometmes, it would be convenient to be able drive one like a 'normal' car, and still have masses of power if needed
I don't think there is such a thing as a perfect road car. A sorted Cerbera (with a proper TVR engine) can make a very good everyday car that is capable of being used in all seasons and for all occasions. There will always be compromises though which is why people make things like the headlights and wipers work better.
As for a Cerbera with a huge LS1 and a proper DCT gearbox, that would be excellent, different but still excellent.

Now then John, that was me talking
In my defence I think I do get Cerbs, no concours garage queens round here, I drive it every day, drop the kids of on the way to work, which quite regularly includes a 300 mile day trip over to Bristol and back, I track it and sprint / hill climb it in the TVRCC Speed champ - great fun
Take it to Le Mans..... fix it, normally myself
I was coming from the viewpoint of having knee problems, its a right git to drive in stop start round the M25, I hobble about like an old cowboy when I arrive at the other end - oh for an Auto for those journeys. I wouldn't vandalise a good Cerb in any way - that would be sacrilege
but maybe one day, I'll find a car in need of resurrecting, a pot of cash and before you know it there'll be a second Cerb on the drive...

Warwick I have to disagree .
To my mind these cars are to be enjoyed, that makes owners happy, if someone like me or you get to a point where they are unable to drive the car as often as they would like because of various ailments why limit themselves because they cannot change gear anymore ?
Ok I am talking about myself really, for instance I am mulling over should I try & fit a Mercedes handbrake into my Cerb as it will be on the right side near the door, this will enable me to continue driving the car in a safe legal/fashion.
If not then I may not be able drive it at all after Novenber, so do stop my enjoyment because of what others may think or feel ?

Fair play, when I say vandalise I'm more thinking about an unnecessary engine swap. I doubt that there is or ever was such a thing as a standard Cerb. I see my Cerb like a mate, we'll grow old together and we'll change and adapt so we continue to get along.... When I'm (even) older, if my knee probs get worse I may well sort myself out an auto conversion...To my mind these cars are to be enjoyed, that makes owners happy, if someone like me or you get to a point where they are unable to drive the car as often as they would like because of various ailments why limit themselves because they cannot change gear anymore ?

As far as the handbrake goes, isn't anything an improvement on the factory one.
Hope you continue to enjoy your Cerb for a long time to come

Something like a Ferrari California might fit the bill better if the aim is to pull the imaginary Venn diagram of car qualities away from the thuggishness that kinda defines the Cerbera and towards ease of use and better manners in traffic?
Having had autos (still do) due to a knee problem which has pretty much sorted itself out now, I can understand the desire to go that way but personally I think you'd end up with a slightly unresolved car which blends the softness and computer game feel that flappy paddle cars have (at least the 2 high performance ones I've driven) with the awkward ingress/egress and slightly claustrophibic qualities which suggest a more brutal character.
In my mind a flappy paddle Cerb would be the worst of both worlds.
I'll admit I don't see the relevence of the LS. To me it's a way of driving the rest of a TVR if you break your engine and can't source a replacement. I can't see any perceived advantage to having such a generic engine in such a unique car any more than I can see the appeal of sticking the JLR 3.0 V6 diesel in it.
