Help with Whisky

I would like to buy some Whisky for my (American) boss. He likes whisky very much and is open to new ones.

I don't want to spend more than £50 and preferably from Amazon so I can get it for tomorrow (I'm going to America on Thursday).

I know NOTHING about Whisky, way too much alcohol.

The choice seems to be:

Dalmore 12 year Malt

Aedberg 10 year Malt

Any others?

Yep, they stock some decent stuff. (and some good offers)
It's difficult for PH whisky experts to recommend something without knowing what he likes, but sounds like he's pretty flexible.

I'd give the rather moreish BNJ a go, available from Waitrose and unlikely to be found in a US liquor store.

Masterofmalt.com they are a good bunch with pretty much everything you can get. I've bought a few tasting sets for people always goes down well.

Thank you for your help so far. He tends to pick the more expensive stuff when we go to bars, but I have no idea of names.

The 'show us your Whisky' thread did just confuse me more!

Waitrose has a decent enough selection if you go to one of the bigger branches.

I see you're in East Sussex, there is a whisky shop in East Street, Brighton. Could be worth popping along and having a word with them to recommend something for you.

Assuming your taking the whisky to America, I would get something at Duty Free?

Major airports have some of the best selections of whisky in the country. They also have lots of limited editions you dont find in domestic retail stores.

Picked up a bottle of Auchentoshan Select recently at an airport duty free, a travel retail only whisky and it was lovely. You could really taste the crispy apple flavour in it.

That bottle was polished off over a night with a mate, no problem at all.

Pop into a Waitrose and grab a BNJ and a Caol Ila 12.

I once met a Scots guy who was as old as the hills and had drunk more whisky than all the people reading this thread combined and I started talking about whisky expecting some incredible insight and all he said was "It's all bks, Bells is as good as any". True story. It's like someone offering you Benson and Hedges when you have been talking Cuban cigars.

And he had a very furry tongue indeed. So who was I to argue?

So I suggest that. You might want to pour it into something that sounds more Celtic and has a fancy label though. Something like aged for 30 years in mead casks from waters peculating down through the peat covered slopes of Glen Close. Being American Glen Close will ring a bell also.

That's true -- Duty free. I just thought it would all the normal type stuff rather than something interesting. But it is a good idea.

He's arranging for a bunch of us to go racing at Laguna on Sunday, so yes
