Diesel Remap. Power or ECO?
Discussion
To be honest I'd just go for a power map on it, or 25/75 in favour of power not economy. You'll still see an increase as the previous poster said but won't be disappointed when you plant your foot down.
Best thing to do is talk to the mapping specialist of choice in your area. Remember the best map comes from the man that listens to exactly what you want and will be able to advise what's best on the type of driving you do, towing, long motorway work etc.

Extra umph would be nice but at the end of the day its a range rover, its not going to get down the road very quick.
If an eco map was going to get me 5mpg more where a power map was only going to get me 2mpg, then it would be worth my while to go eco. In reality i imagine that the eco will be just a slightly turned down power map and if you drove sensibly on the power map you would get the same mpg as you would on the Eco.

A correctly tuned remap will give you both performance and economy, most economy maps give an increase in low rpm torque mainly by advancing injection timing and adding boost then giving lots of 'drivers wish' I.e making the throttle demand at lower rpm higher to give the feel of more power with less throttle input and not gaining any huge power in higher RPM
Many tuners will offer a 'power' map just by adding boost and fuel, not ideal.
A custom tuned map on a rolling road dyno can give you everything you want in 1 product, but tuners that can carry out true custom mapping on a dyno are few and far between, and you pay a bit extra for the product but its well worth the final results. You then control the power or Eco choice by the way you drive.

I regularly remap diesels.
I remapped a 406 for economy recently - went from 48 ish to 54 ish, so a useful improvement in economy. Performance improved a bit as well, though because I was looking for economy, I didn't measure a possible improvement.
The performance increase will often give you an increase in the mpg registering on the dash, while ironically, the eco will tend to lower the reading on the dash. You will need to brim the tank to test real mpg.
In the end, you decide the parameters, and ask accordingly.
BTW it's worth deleting the EGR valve during the remap.
All the best

Thanks for the advice folks.
The eco remap doesn't really promise any figures for my vehicle, more just the general "you could save xx%" tag line.
I asked a few questions of the guy i was looking at and he didnt give me confidence. Got the impression he was a young guy who had bought a remapping machine, his car knowledge was poor to say the least.
Currently the car gets about 25MPG on the day to day commute. I've just had the gearbox remapped to lock up the torque converter earlier so this should improve things slightly. Definitely improves the way it drives.
Dapple, i'm going to give Seddox a ring see what they can do. Definitely sounds like a proper outfit.
Before anyone says anything like "you shouldnt buy a car if you cant afford to run it", that is definitely not the case. I'm just trying to work out which remap will have the best ROI and whether eco maps make enough difference to MPG to miss out on the extra umph

i had our 1.6tdci cmax done this week, the dpf was knackered so in very un-pistonhead like fashion i went for the eco map as it supposedly also gives a small increase in power. i need to do a proper test on actual used, but by the gauge its made a massive difference, before the dpf got blocked i would get about 60 mpg, with a blocked dpf i was getting 53mpg with the eco map i am getting 72mpg. This is all based on the same 150 mile commute i do.
