Law of averages would suggest it's a built up area....
Besides....if the entry signs are there and the street lights are present....what more needs to be there....we're not talking about a bit over...we're talking about a LOT over....
This weeks highest speeder caught by myself was 68mph in a 40mph past a service station forecourt...

Why don't we wait for more info before crucifying this guy ?
BTW, I agree that SC's speeder deserves a nailing-up (if it was dangerous at the time
Thanks mate...
It was dangerous.....imagine emerging from a petrol station onto a 40 mph road and having to contend with a car doing 68mph....imagine the speeding car panic braking and entering the forecourt before hitting a petrol pump..

As a matter of interest I have found when leaving 2 petrol tations recently my sight of oncoming traffic has been obscured by boards advertising Meal Deals or Free Oil or some such other marketing practice by the petrol station. Bearing in mind one of these petrol stations is in a 50mph limit, would the police take any action against the garage if I was hit as I pulled out?

OK, then, let's not wait for more info, let's just form a judgment based on a numerical speed
Pulling out which causes another vehicle to alter their course or brake is an offence, is it not?
Could the driver of the car doing 68mph stop in the distance he could see to be clear? Was he practising roadcraft?
In another post you've requested PH's write to MP's to push for more TrafPol. Indeed, but I want TrafPol to focus on safety related issues not just speed over a certain limit.

no offence I can think of

Who gives a monkey...?
It would be impossible for him to stop in time if someone had emerged from the petrol station. He wasn't practising roadcraft as to exceed the posted speed on restricted roads is illegal.
Sixtyfookingeight miles per hour in a 40mph zone for goodness sake...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hear people on hear bleating about getting done for 35mph in a 30mph zone and such like..but sixtyfookingeight in a 40mph zone.....
Get real...

So what does the HC reckon the overall stopping disance is at 70mph? 315ft? So if the car pulls out when the car is 320ft feet away, a collision is impossible to avoid? I don't think so...
It amazes me the way you readily advise PH's not to jump to conclusions (generally when it involves BiB)
but then ignore this advice yourself.
Can we PLEASE have some consitency?
BTW, how many people were killed by the 68MH driver?

Do we need to kill people before action is taken..??
People in car parks with screwdrivers, break out hammers and surgical gloves get arrested for Going equipment to steal, without actually having stolen anything.....
You don't need to have actually killed someone to be dangerous...what a ludicrous arguement....It's too late once they've killed someone....
You mentioned in your earlier post ca092003 about trafpol not targetting speeders; this joker, the 68mph guy, had just bought the car, it was registered to someone else. I very much doubt that he'll be insured...(the next 7 days will tell)...
A camera can't do that for you; as the previous keeper would have got the NIP and all sorts of toing and froing would have taken place..

No we don't. But we have to be rational and accept that under certain circumstances it is perfectly safe to do that speed.
The challenge is to identfy the unsafe drivers and leave the safe ones alone.

Book 'em Danno! No problem at all with that.

Indeed. But if they are speeding and are dangerour then book 'em. If they are speding and not dangerous then leave them alone.

That is why cameras will, in my opinion, never be in a position to replace TrafPol. But let me stress yet again, that if this guy was dangerous then book him but if he was just exceeding the limit but was in full control and was practising roadcraft and was using all of the forward vision available to him, then is there a problem?

Just to stoke the fire a bit I quite regularly do 50-60 in a 30 limit area ...
Aye well, there's 30 limit areas - and there's 30 limit areas!
All together now:
It all depends on the circumstances. Er, that is, so far as actual danger is concerned.
As a matter of fact I know a village where one can enter the 30 limit at 50-55 mph (with the speed then reducing steadily) without creating a risk for anyone at all.
Best wishes all,
Dave.

Somebody pulled out of a filling station in front of me a few months ago. I had a good view of the scene as I approached at about 85 mph on a single carriageway NSL road, (OK a bit naughty!) but I didn't like the body language of the other car, so I got the speed down. Sure enough he pulled out without waiting for me to go past, but it was OK as it happened, I only needed to brake moderately and I never got closer to him than about 50 yards. It's funny how you get a feeling about some drivers that seems to tell you not to trust them.
Best wishes all,
Dave.

But there are 40mph zones that shouldn't be (I'm not saying yours is), my journey to work takes me on a road that was NSL since time began and now, (since about 1 year ago), is a 40mph. It is a wide open country road with no houses/driveways etc and most people still do 50-70 on it.
What's that all about?

Ahh, so by driving a sporty car, you can be automaticly pulled for "going equipped to kill children"!
FWIW everyday I pass a petrol station whose exit goes straight across the start of a slip road and then onto a very fast dual carriageway. It is without doubt the most dangerous bit of road engineering I've ever seen, but although I've seen and had a few near misses, I've not actualy seen an accident there in 7 years (sure there must have been one or two though, South Brent junction on A38 if anyone knows it).
