What can i do in this situation...

My corsa was written off as category C after some idiot reversed into the drivers side door. Its perfectly drivable so i got it back from insurance.

Thing is, I need to get it VIC checked before I can get it retaxed.
VIC test has a 3 week waiting list, my tax runs out in one week.

Do you reckon I could get away with driving to and from work for two weeks with no tax??
I drive along country lanes where there are only one set of speed cameras.

What do you think?
What are the penalties?
What excuse can I give if I get stopped?
What other options do I have?
I dont want to hire a car, or have my car SORN...

Please reply as time is short...
Thanks,

conkerman

Will you get away with it? Probably. Should you try it? I don't think so, the penalty for being caught could be quite stiff; driving an unverified write-off without tax, possibly insurance as well (my insurers have said cover is denied until the vehicle is VIC'd after repair).

As an otherwise law abiding citizen you are almost guaranteed to be fined for your two weeks of daring to use an untaxed car.

Have you also considered the insurance situation to? If you have a untaxed vehicle do you not have to either re tax it or cancel your insurance?

You do not need to get it VIC checked before you can tax it.
If you still have the log book you can tax it.
My son bought a Corsa that was cat C. Bloke he bought it from had had it written off by the insurance company and returned to him. Before we had the vic check done he taxed it with just the tear off (new owner) slip from the old log book. (and mot and insurance obviously)
You can also keep on getting tax without the vic test, you just cant do it online.(you need to do it at the post office)
Until you get the vic test done the DVLA will not send you a reminder that your tax is about to expire.

I dont think asking for excuses or driving without tax is a good idea advertising on a car enthusiasts forum or any where for that matter, because driving with an untaxed vehicle will surely invalidate insurance and hence if you crash into someone ...... its not going to be a slap on the wrist is it..........
