My eldest has his test Thursday and if he passes will add him to the insurance on our C1 as a named driver, not his car, not fronting in any way shape or form just to be clear !

The policy is in my name, wife is the main driver, if he crashes it do I then have a claim I have to declare for other policies, just not sure what the implications of adding him to it are. When I renew my other cars do I have to say I have had a claim or would it be down to him to declare when he gets his own car ?

Will you make a claim on your policy? yes
Does no1 son need to claim an accident? yes

Yep.

Son claims accident.
You claim on policy.

Both would have to quote it in future.

Double Whammy!

He will be a named driver on your policy. If he crashes and there is a claim, then claim will be against YOUR policy - it will go down against you (and him for the accident). This will mean

1. That you will lose your no claims bonus if not protected

2. That you will have to declare the fact that you have made a claim on your policy

3. That he will have to declare the accident and claim when he gets his own policy

If he is driving on YOUR policy then YOU are the one at risk if he has a claim or accident. You'd better explain this to him and be aware of the consequences - if he screws up, it's going to cost YOU!
