My car has been sitting on drive for several weeks due to lack of time etc. Battery was flat so jumped it from a spare everything ok apart from no wipers. Before I start going through everything, can anybody point me in the right direction.
Andy.

Has anyone ever looked at upgrading the wiper motor? My previous and current Chimaera are both pretty terrible when it comes to wipers working correctly when on the motorway!

Rain X has been used but just putting it out there.

^^^^^^ This. My original failed, burnt out due to a nia on siezed spindle box.

The motor is now replaced with a new 14W, nice free spindle boxes and the wipers will now work on a dry screen.

The wipers probably get little use on most of these cars these days and as such the spindle boxes can begin to sieze, hence the motor struggling to work the wipers, especially on a dry screen.

Since my misfortune, i regulary pull the wipers off the screen and give them a good workout, keep everything moving.

What grease did you use on the gears?

I had some special Fiat wiper gear grease left over from a technical bulletin kit for noisy Punto wiper motor mechanism's from years back wink if I didn't have that I would probably of just used something like this or some Fuch's synthetic grease I have, in saying this I have seen Vaseline used in the past for stuff like this with no issues scratchchinhttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Finish-Line-Teflon-100g-...

Can you actually get to the wheelboxes on the cars with the Lucas motors (well, without cutting out chunks inside the dash)?

Is there anything that can be used to replace the standard fit Lucas motor and box? (I get nervous when parts become difficult to source.) The 14w has a lesser throw on the drive shaft has it not?

The Bosch motors that they changed to on the later cars were mounted on the pedal box weren't they? is there any way to retrofit a later motor?
