First post so be kind!

20 in January (hopefully with 3 years ncb)

I've got 15k for car and insurance but I wouldn't want to spend much more than 2k on insurance.

Looking for something a little different, anything mid-90's onwards.
Was looking at Chimaeras or a Z4M but they seem a little out of my price range and I'm looking to explore other avenues!

Don't have to spend the lot, some change would be nice for bork factor!

any suggestions?

ETA:

Car will be used for commuting daily, covering roughly 12,000 miles pa

Something like a VX220, maybe?

Or if you want something more bargy, a Monaro?

The 370Z is probably worth a look too.

I got my 335i M-sport coupe at 21 with insurance of £820 a year so should be do-able....can even put a JB4 on when 21 for an extra 70 horses?

In budget now too!

He says he's looking for something "different" and we've already had three suggestions for 3-series derivatives? hehe

Not the answer you'll want but I'd put 15k into a property and get a 320D on HP or something like that. You'll regret blowing all that money on a car. Alternatively go for something on classic insurance that's a little older, a lot cheaper and probably a lot cooler too.

This is where I would be, it totally depends on your insurance in my opinion, where I used to live in the UK you would be looking at 3-5k a year even with a clean record for something like a 3 series or a VX220.

Alternatively an S2000?

I was wondering how long it would take. He asked advice about what car to buy, not how to invest his money/live his life rolleyes

Doesn't mean that it's not worth saying - most of us have been that age and come out of it wishing we'd done something differently. If I had 15k at that age I'd be buying an MX5 for £3k and spending a year travelling the world tbh.

And the bit of advice for a 20 year old getting a 320D or a classic and having money over is completely out of place? Experience is a wonderful thing so no need to overreact.

True, I wish I hadn't bought the above 335i frown spent the cash on a flat instead!

350z would be a good plan. Lots of them around and cheap too.
